Towing???????

Does anyone tow a travel trailer camper with their 4runner? I'm still looking hard into trading in my car for a 4runner or tundra. The 4runner will serve my everyday/wknd/hunting & fishing/daily driver needs. I have a 3/4ton dodge diesel that does all the heavy towing and delivery around the farm. Its getting up their in age and not the cleanness rig. Plus my fiance needs it for her job so I get minimal use of it; therfore my reasoning of buying a 4x4 for myself.

Anyways my dad and I are looking at leasing land for hunting that is about 4-5hrs away. If we do so were going to purchase a travel trailer to tow out there on the wknds to hunt and camp out of.

How would the 2005 V8 4runner with 80-100k miles handle towing a camper 4-5 times a year. On a 2005 4runner V8 the towing capacity is around 5,000lbs, correct? This is the same for 2005 year tundra. Should I look at getting a new tundra with the 5.7L V8? My heart is kind of set on the 4runner but would hate to purchase it and not be able to tow what I need. Thanks!

I just bought my first travel trailer last summer. Have towed it a few times ~1hr outside my City a few times and it tows it well.

Check your sticker but I beleive all v8 4x4 4Runners can tow 7000lbs, 7200lbs for 2wd. You'll need a WDH to do this. I didn't like the idea of maxing out my truck so my trailer's GVWR is 4200lbs. Being that this is the first time towing for me I can't compare much to others but my 4Runner towed the trailer well up the few hills we have around here. The one downfall is the physical size of the 4Runner, it's fairly small so cross winds can blow you around a bit. I've heard sway control hitches can fix this.

Just watch your trailer weight, and decide on what's comfortable for you.

You'd be fine with either vehicle, especially if it's only a couple of times a year. Both the 4R and Tundra are nice vehicles.

I have A 4000 pound travel trailer and the 4runner knows its there but tows with a smile!! Do you research and get all epuitment needed

I tow with my 4runner many weekends during the summer.

I have the 4.0 V6 and it handles the 3000 trailer easily.

I also have a V6 4wd and I pull our 3500lb boat 50 miles round trip to the lake every weekend in the summer and it does great.

high mile v6

I bought a hybrid with a 4600lb loaded weight. Towed it last year with a 2007 v6 4runner with 85k miles on it. Towed over 2.5k miles over the summer and it did fine. You know the campers there but it handled it fine.
