Yeah, i don't know about doing 100+ on the BFG...maybe you need to look at HIGHWAY tires, not all-terrains. I have taken my G500 to 85 mph...and my G did not like it, more due to the brickwall aerodynamics than tires.

The G is a different animal. The 4Runner is completely stable at 85.

The speed rating on the 265/70 BFG's are 112R for the C rating and 121R for the E rating.

Thats fine by me - that's what the Dunlops are.

Anyone have any experience with BFG's at 80+? I consistently drive at 80+ on the highway and dont want to feel "insecure".

They ride so much smoother and more quietly than the old 265\70-16 Opern Country's I had. The old ones got louder when they were nearing the end of their life. I got 80K out of them and they about 2-3/32 left on them. I took the 4Runner out this morning with my wife, and put it through some nasty mud that was under about 8-10" of water. They handled like a champ. Scared my wife! :) Also, I saw you asking about speed handling. I had my older ones up to 100 twice and around 85-90 several times and they handled just fine. My wind deflector on the sunroof does not like it though. :) Anyway, to sum it up, I will be running these tires as long as Toyo continues to make them. You cannot beat them for the money and they look great. Try getting a set of respectable A/T tires for under $600.

My Revos also do hummmm on the highway . I forgot to mention that before.

I do travel at high speeds at times (legally) and have not had an issue with my Revos , BUT they are not made to do that and don't recommend it at all.

i've had mine up to 90, w/ no issues, this is never for an extended period though. That would be in a passing only situation. most i have cruised at w/ them is 80, and had no problems. However if i want to drive fast then i have falken 452's w/ a vehicle on top of them that is far more capable of not rolling over and bursting into flames or something if i have to make an emergency maneuver. Sorry i'm a firm believer that a vehicle and a tire has a purpose and probably is best used for it.

I had a '99 Trooper. My experience with the Toyo Open Country on the Trooper was similar. That's to say very good, so good I bought a second set.

I really have nothing to add to Jamess feedback except to add a :iagree: 100% !!!

Well Im commuting 600 miles a week and at the end of the summer my dad thinks it would be a good idea to replace the tires before winter.

I have done tons of research and have narrowed it down to these two. I will most likely getting them in 265/65/17 size as I like the speed, handling etc of the current setup and this way I will only need 4. I have no interest in trimming which I understand I have to do with the KO's in the 70 size.

So, I mainly drive on the highway dont really go off road and if I do, its sandy hills etc - not really into rock crawling. Snow performance, wet weather performance, and quietness are important to me. I have never been in a car with AT tires so I cant comment on their ride/noise and I am looking for insight from you guys who moved from the Dunlops to an AT tire. Unlike many of you, the Dunlops have performed fine IMO; however, I want an aggressive looking tire.

I plan on painting my wheels black too so IDK if that comes into play as far as looks are concerned.

I would immediately get on the KO bandwagon but I am afraid of the poor wet weather performance (hydroplaning) I am hearing and unnecessary road noise some are commenting on. I am staying away from the Nitto TG due to their reputation of humming on the highway - also not a fan of the sidewall.

So, lmk what you guys think>

Thanks in advance!

Not real flashy but real good for your described useage... Many run them all year. If you're sticking to the 265/65 size they might be a good option. If going with 70's Revos' or Toyo's will make you happy. The BFG 70's are the only ones that rub. Check the Pirelli's out on tirerack and someone here had them.... Alaskaman and other like the Pirelli ATR's too.

Well driving on the highway after thinking a lot i'm saying to myself why in the hell am I going to compromise the feel, handling, and security that the current Dunlops give me. Contrary to many of your opinions, I think they are a great highway/road tire. I cannot even under full throttle get them to spin in the rain and they have gotten me everywhere safely thus far. Furthermore, the ride is incredible smooth so I'm back to the drawing board.

I know that the BFG's will not provide similar driving characteristics to the Dunlops so they are out of the question. I guess my main decision is do I go with a semi-aggressive AT tire such as the Toyo A/T, Nitto TG, Revo, get the Dunlops again, or get a better highway tire, Michelin etc. I am still up in the air as to 65/70 size tire, I really dont want to compromise any turning/accelerating ability that I currently have. I still really cant get a good idea of how differently an AT tire will handle on the highway at 80+.

Any and all input would be appreciated - perhaps close this thread and start a new one mods?

Currently, the Michelin LTX A/T 2 is at the top of the list. Decent looks, superb reputation, option of the 65/70 size, great handling.

Next on my list is the Pirelli Scorpion ATR or AT - cant really decide.

So its those three. Still have more research to do.

I had two sets of the Toyo Open Country AT on my last 4runner ('98) and liked them a lot! I can't remember exact figures, but the first set got around 65k miles or more. When my current Dunlops are shot on the 07, I will be putting the Toyos on for sure! The only time I off-road is on the beach. The Toyos always performed well with the proper PSI. They performed really well in rain and snow too!

let the analysis paralysis begin

had the TA KOs on my v8 limited 4runner - liked them a lot. smooth. quiet.

now running OC ATs on the GX470.... same thing. smooth. quiet.

you can't go wrong with either. i do like the chunkier tread of the toyos. so i'd likely buy these over the BFGs on looks alone.

Toyo OC AT 2's

Can anyone tell me if they have had any trouble running a size 265/75/16 on a stock 02 rig? I'm looking at the TOYO OC LT AT 2's and I notice a few guys are running that size on their 3rd gens - just want to make sure there are no issues before I buy.

Cheers

regarding this topic, i too need tires. so i have seen michelin, toyo and these revo models. since i don't do any off roading, rather a lot of city/highway driving and occasional drive on the beach, what is a good tire for me?

i don't like noise and want a quality tire that looks and preforms well and the price is right, especially for a 17" tire. advise?
