I saw this article int he news the other day and wanted to share it here. these folks evaluate cars for reliability when it really matters, not just int he first 90 days like jd power.

I saw this the other day too and ended up being too busy to post it. Thanks for posting. Land Cruiser gets a perfect 100 score for reliability, and the 4Runner is not far behind at 95.2, and in fact, has the second highest score of any Toyota vehicle.

I am a little confused: the FJ scores considerably lower than 4Runner and Land Cruiser on overall quality index, and yet, if you look at the big three factors (powertrain/ transmission/engine issues) the FJ reports a lower percentage of issues with all three!?
So, on what, exactly, is the overall quality index based?

Just curious - not in doubt about the quality of my 4Runner, nor the FJ that preceded it.

Other stuff broke like the fenders, rear lift gate or something interior related for example. Also notice the FJ is traded much quicker than most Toyotas.

Preaching to the choir.

My dad still has his 86' 4Runner - 178,000 original miles runs like a clock

My sister has her 01' with 190,000 miles

I had a 00' that I traded in at 180,000

We have our 05' 4runner, it's a few miles away from 200,000 miles

No repairs or anything to note on any of them, just oil and breaks.

And that's why we bought our 14'!!

My '87 4Runner only has 207k, my '93 Fzj80 is sitting at 265k, and my ' 97 4runner has over 300k. I can't wait to see how many we can rack up on the '15.

This. This is the reason I did my research and landed at the 4Runner. I had my last Toyota for 100k, and only ever replaced tires and changed the oil. I did replace the wheels, but that was my own fault for going too fast over a pothole denting one of the steel wheels. I grew up with Fords, but they just don't hold up anymore.... the repair records and reliability just aren't there. I absolutely love my 4Runner. I plan on keeping it till the wheels fall off. :high5:

Also notice the FJ is traded much quicker than most Toyotas.

I doubt they took into account that the oldest FJ is only about 8 years'. (If they did, they'd then have to explain some complicated methodology that would confuse 99.9% of the viewers.)

I've had three, starting in '85. Still drive the '03 and, of course, my '12 4runner! I miss my '85.

Good stuff. We've had four Toyota products as well:

1994 Lexus ES300
1999 Toyota Avalon
2004 Lexus RX 330 (current)
2010 Toyota TE 4Runner (current)

All four have been stellar for us.

I did have 2 Land Rover Range Rovers:

2006 RR HSE
2007 RR Supercharged

2006-2012. I could not believe the maintenance costs, both had warranties that paid for them selves 2x. Finally the warranty expired on the 07 and I came to my senses and came back to Toyota. The 4Runner is my favorite vehicle I've owned.
