Yeah no doubt. Planning to keep til I die. I will confirm they have them in stock - a quick local look yesterday didn't turn up any local dealers who had updated their site's inventories - still OOS or Disco'd.

State side I check inventories often in hope of one showing up calling Olathe & local.
Was surfing Amayama few days ago my disco'd 01 Ver. "New" in stock in UAE.
Death do we part in mind also, seeing "in stock" I,ve been weighing new cost vs other options.
Any used gotta be 01-02v 340 I buy is suspect why not go all in buy once cry once.
To nearest dealer $6500.00 incld's $1k ship plug n play get +-300k mi. of reliability. For same level of reman as new
shop in Jersey for scratch built trans $5k + ship, send yours $4k + ship.

Mine did that when it failed last year. I was the one who did the last fluid service and filled it to spec on the Cold line. When I started having clunking and terrible noises coming from the transmission I checked it when cold and the fluid in the pan was past the Hot line. I drained the pan and 5 1/2 quarts came out as the transmission was not holding fluids where it need to. I suspect failure as well.
I'm not seeing any discernable difference in the 35000 vs the 35010. The part number vary greatly but as long as you stay in the same sub generation (96-98, 99-00, 01-02) you'll be fine. Even some between sub generations will still work you will just have to borrow some parts from the old one.
Have you looked into used ones? I see used 2WD transmission for cheap very often. It's the 4WD ones that command a higher price.
Yea, I'm probably gonna have to do a used. Been on car-part.com looking around... many of the low mileages listed are false. May have actually found 2 with 80k on them that I'm gonna jump on... one is $1k bell housing and torque converter. My quote for a Reman from C and C in Kentucky was $3250 shipped, no torque converter. Trans are above my paygrade so I have no idea what all I need.

I bought mine off car-part.com as well from a place not too far from me. I ignored any listing that didn't provide exact mileage (just saying it has 150,000 isn't good enough) or show the odometer of the vehicle on the photo listing. My used unit has 139K miles on it for a 4WD version and I paid $600 last year. I did not collect the core return charge due to time constraints and illness. I think you could probably do similar price with a slightly lower mileage but beware of anything below 100K miles. There are no broken down 4Runners under 100K miles only smashed up ones. If they do state it has 80,000 miles on the transmission they better show you a photo or the vehicle itself smashed to bits otherwise they are lying about mileage.
I was able to get that used transmission put in. Cost me $1400ish part + labor. Truck was in a rollover at 80k-ish miles, and although CarFax isn't always complete, that's where all records for this vehicle end (76k mi registration). All told, I didn't really have a better option so it was worth taking the chance.

hello i have a 2003 4runner 4.7l and was wondering if the transfer case assembly is swapable for the 4.0l v-6 both are automatic. I dont think the transmissions are swapable correct?

hello i have a 2003 4runner with 4.7l and i have another parts car 2003 4runner with 4.0l v-6. the v-8 is different from the V-6 ....visually . so im guessing they cant be swapped out....but are the transfer cases interchangeable? where can i see the part number on case itself? they look to be the same visually. any help would be great. thanks

What an absolute shame that Johny Octane is no longer participating here on the forum. This transmission post is one of the best I've ever read on any forum for any vehicle. Nobody has been successful at locating him?

Hi Thank you for the post. New member here. Long time reader. I just pulled my trans due to what I believed was a cracked flex plate. Had no symptoms other than ticking noise which I narrowed down to the bell housing. Couldn't find a crack in
the flexplate so I decided to take a look at the torque convertor. Upon examineing I found a crack all the way around the circumstance at the weld line, but not leaking. Trans shifts well no slipage doesn't leak. Should I just replace the convertor and flexplate or is it a tyranny problem? 1999 4runner 3.4l red 280.000 miles. Thanks for any advice. Any comments welcome.

That's an interesting one..I would see if the shaft spins freely in the transmission. Then I probably change the TC and flexplate.
I have not heard of a TC cracking like that before.

Not trying to sound like a smart ass - but I would definitely love to hear an explanation of why you believe this. I've seen overfilled transmissions blow excess out of the breather, but having no fluid over low fluid?
