Hey Northof49

That was referring to the people I worked with, not specifically you. Calm down there killer! There are good and bad dealerships, as well as sales people. Take a deep breathe and read the post again.

Sorry man, but when you start the post off as you did, it really puts a bad spin on the rest.

As for your buy in US register in Canada idea, that won't work without a valid US address. Also, if Toyota finds out this is what you've done, they apparently will not do warranty work to your vehicle in Canada. I know that has been a problem for guys who bought brand new in Canada (because it was cheaper BTW) and sold in the US right away. If you had 2 residences, one CAN/one US, then it would work fine.....not that it's necessairly any cheaper in US anyways, but if it was, that's how you could do it.

I hear what you say about guys fudging numbers, hiding costs.....and all the other ugly stuff that gives the whole industry a bad name. That's the really cool thing with Access; any joe shmo can go on toyota.ca, pick options and work out a price/payment/lease with all costs included and laid out. Lease/finance/cash, side by side. At the dealership we use toyota.ca with no backdoor, or special editing priviledges. Check it out if you haven't; actually quite impressive.

So the good thing with Access, is that you should never get screwed, because you can look at what the dealer looks at, from home. The problems start when people don't want to pay the quoted prices, no matter how fair they maybe.

I have a theory I'll try out someday. Take a brand new, $50,000 vehicle and put a sticker for $20,000 in the window. I'll bet everything I own that someone will come in and offer $17 grand lol

Guys,

I have been in conversation the past month with the Competition Bureau of Canada. They are trying to make a case against Toyota Canada and its regional provincial dealers for its price fixing policies.

They want to hear from anyone who has had poor dealings with Toyota in regards with TOYOTA ACCESS PRICING. This would include those who have purchased and those who are planning to buy a Toyota in the near future.
They really want to put an end this illegal affair.

The individual below would like to hear from you.

Please contact him so that we don't have to be ripped off by TOYOTA any further. If you are shy, you can contact me so I can better direct your questions:awais:

Good news, good news!!!

I went into my preffered Toyota dealership over the holiday season and had a chat with the sales manager. I discovered that they do not follow the Access Toyota pricing anymore . He told me that all the other benefits of Access Toyota are still here, but that the dealerships can now use their own judgement to price the vehicles.

I would like to tell disclose the dealership's name to you, but fear that they may get penalized. I'll check more dealerships out to see if this is a BC wide thing now.

BC Guys,

Is this a good deal?

$48,500 CDN plus taxes for a demo V6 LTD. Its got 4000km on it and was registered in early November. what do you guys think?

That was always the case across Canada, but most dealers are stealers and give lame ass excuses as to why they don't follow anything but Access Pricing. If you can get a deal, go for it!

Doesn't it seem a bit high for a 'used' vehicle? A new one cost, what?, approx 50-51Gs?

Ask him to check the blue book and requote. Better yet, call up another dealer and tell him you have a vehicle that is exactly like the one you're interested in (clear title), and ask what sort of offer they would make.

Bear in mind that that's 4000 km of abuse by who? Test drivers? Or the 'general manager'? Right. Give me a break. 48.5 Gs ... I don't think I'd be interested in the V6 for that price considering it's used.

I would expect it is a 2004 model with a November registration date - Toyota Canada were offering a $1,000 rebate against MRSP when they were clearing out old models last year. I would push him down a lot further - MSRP on a 2004 V6 limited was 48,800 + taxes etc before any cash incentive (V8 Limited was just under $51k) - so he is offering you a deal worse than you could have got for a new one back in November!!

Nope its a 2005, it has the 5 speed transmission. I've now got him down to $48,000. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks for your input!

What's the price 'new'?

I can buy brand new for $50,500 before tax. This includes the hood protector undercoating, block heater and all season mats. I'm told this is $500 below MSRP and its the best they can do. I call BS. This offer isstill better than in the lower mainland

The demo model I'm looking has all of the above mentioned items too. I'm told that the truck was driven by the owner's wife all the time. The carpet is soil stained and it has a cracked windshield. The dealer has said this will be taken care of upon delivery.

Northof49, how much did you sell yours for? As a dealer, can you tell me if I'm getting a good deal?

I actually don't work for a dealer anymore.....but I know of a better example than my truck (mine was 2 years old w/30,000kms and a V8).

The dealer I worked at sold a 2004 Limited V6 demo shortly after I left (~8000kms). I've gotta call the sales manager tommorow, so I can ask what it sold for :)

Grimace,

I think they're giving you the gears, dude!

Check for stone chips around and under the wind deflector on the hood. The deflector might be masking some of them. It sounds like it's been through the Fraser Canyon -- classic windshield breaking and paint chipping trip.

Also check under the front end for scratches on the skid plate(s). If you see marks, it's been off-road and the wife story won't hold water.

This sounds like the old "Carefully driven - one lady owner" tagline to me - and I don't know if it gives me any more comfort - if my wife had driven it, you would not want to buy it:)

If you go ahead, make sure the windshield replacement is genuine Toyota not an aftermarket.

Although that's possible, with the grade of sand (more like gravel) they're throwing on BC highways these days, it doesn't take much to do in a windshield.

A few years back, 2 rocks nuked a 4 DAY old windshield in my 3rd gen :(

Well guys,

I think I'm leaning against getting the 4runner at this time. It still seems a little overpriced to me. The wife says she'd rather have a sedan for that kind of money as its her Miata that we are replacing. If the stealer came down any further he might be able to change our minds.

Until then I'm going to wait until March 26 for this car to determine what our decision is.

Its probably a better replacement for our purposes anyway. If it comes in AWD, its going to be sitting in driveway for sure. I'm probably going to have to pay MSRP too. Lexus has the same BS policy right?

:bash:

YABEDUDE is right about being on your own after taking delivery of your vehicle--Toyota Canada does not give a 'RAT' after your vehicle has been delivered to you. I am getting more response from my dealer (Wetaskiwin, Alberta) than Toyota Canada. Try e-mailing Toyota Canada and see if you get a response. You think you should be getting beter communication with the people put in charge of this great Auto Manufacturing Company. I had good raport with GM Canada while I had my 2000 GM Jimmy.
