Since the mod picture is missing, what mod are you guys talking about?

The pic IS there. I am not a computer guy so forgive my 'bush-league' explanation: For some reason many of the pics on this site don't open with IE explorer but they do open with Mozilla Firefox. Why? No clue!

It's a "pre-filter" that relies on centrifugal force to separate particulate from the air going to the filter element.

A cyclone dust collector spins the air through a round chamber to separate heavy particles out. My old 80-series Land Cruisers spun the air around a drum-shaped air filter before going through it. There was a cup clipped to the bottom of the assembly that would fill with dirt and debris. My brother was in the area with two 80-series when Mt St. Helens erupted, the dust collector was very valuable then. If you spend a lot of time on dirt and dust this is worth getting.

I took my K&N off, went back to stock and added the Cyclone pre-filter last weekend. Pretty cool little thing and it works well. So when switching to this you loose the scoop that goes on the inside of the wheel well. I saw some created one from pipe from the hardware store but is this needed? Does this scoop keep things from flying up in the intake or something?
