Toyota Battery Size?

I'm confused. I went to Toyota to get a battery for my '02 4Runner. He said it made a difference if I had a '03 vs a '02. I get in home and it is smaller than the one in it now. The dead one is a 24F and I "think" he sold me a 35. The one he sold me is about an inch smaller than the dead one in the tray. Dead one is about 10" long and the new one is about 8.75 inches long. What do I do? Is the dead battery the wrong size or did he sell me the wrong size?

Your fine...a group 35 is a smaller battery, but should have more cranking amps.

Well, I dont know the exact group/size that comes in the 4runner, but what he gave you will work just fine. All that matters when it comes to replacement batteries is the cranking amps. If you look up your 4runner it will specify what cranking amps are needed, thus any other battery (given size) will work as long as the cranking amps are the same or greater. I personally run a group 34 which has more than enough cranking amps.

I'd like to replace the battery in my 2000 v6. Any new info out there? What are people using to replace the stock battery- 10"Lx7.75"Hx6.75"W Panasonic. My research shows no other battery that exact size. Height seems to be the biggest issue.(Too tall) Any help appreciated.

What brand? There doesn't seem to be any consistency in size between brands.

I did find finally find that the Optima 34 is almost exactly the same size as the original. Most 34's are too long.

When I purchased a new one for my '99 I wanted the one with the most cranking amps that was still a direct fit. I cant remember the exact part number, but it was supposed to be the same as OEM.

It ended up being about half an inch wider than the battery tray and tricky to secure with the strap/mount. But totally worth it since the car started better and the automatic locks sounded like they were gonna blow the door off.

I did that for my 2000, ended up with this: Interstate - MEGA-TRON PLUS 65

I do a lot of camping in my truck and I am planning on adding another battery but it's going to be a tight fit with that big one already in there.

As long is it's no more than 8" tall it will fit. It can be quite a few inches longer than stock and still fit.

Obviously it sits on, not in the tray. No movement? This would allow a whole assortment of other batteries to be used as long as they are under 8' or so.(less what you lose on the tray height)

It doesn't matter. The lip on the tray doesn't havbe much of a lip to it. The tray is a peice of plastic taht just kinda levels the bottom out. All that matters is that the hook can hold it down properly, so height is the only thing that matters. A longer battery might get you some extra CCAs.

You can use a 24F, or a 35. You can also use a 34R, but the regular 34 has the positive on the left and we need positive on the right like the 34R. I just put in a Group 35 from Costco and it fit fine--a little smaller than stock lengthwise. 3-year full guarantee and I can buy three for the price of an AGM. An AGM won't go nine years so I think this is is the best deal.

Thanks folks. This series thing is bizarre. A lot of the series 35's are around 8.75' tall. You've obviously found some 8.00"-. It appears you have to get the measurements on every brand to be sure. Or take the tape to the store.

Sears DieHard Platinum, Napa "The Legend", Bosch Platinum have the most CCAs and last a long long time. A dry cell batter like Optima will have more CCAs but die sooner because they are made in Mexico now... abd the QC sucks

You may be able to get a battery tahts an inch taller, like 9 inches. The bracket can bend a little and still be snug

No, but I haven't a clue what the spec is on it. Do you? There's certainly nothing on the battery. Toyota parts at the dealer are expensive so I didn't even give it a thought. It did last ten years though.

When I replaced the battery in my '99, I picked one up at Napa because I have an account there. The next day I found out that the dealer would have been the same price and it would have fit better. Who would have guessed??

I did mine every five years whether it needed it or not. I figure the Texas heat will kill it at some point and fixed it before hand. Both times I got the high end battery from Advance Auto on sale. No problems at all.
