Toyota cv grease for inner/outer joint

I recently had to reboot a remanufactured toyota cv axle b/c of a torn outer boot. When researching instructions on rebooting a cv axle, it was my understanding that the tan grease goes in the inner joint and the grey grease goes in the outer joint. However, when I was rebooting the axle (that came from toyota), the outer joint had the tan colored grease and the inner joint had the grey grease...so I did the same, putting the tan grease in the outer joint & the grey in the inner joint. I called toyota to verify if that's how they come from the factory or if it mattered which grease was used for the inner & outer joints and they weren't sure.

My question is:
1. Has anyone else, that's had a leaking outer boot from a toyota axle, noticed tan colored grease in the outer boot?

2. Is having the tan grease in the outer joint & grey grease in the inner joint a big enough issue that I should reboot the cv axle again?

So far my 4runner is driving fine but if the wrong grease leads to premature wear of the cv joint then I will bite the bullet and do it all over again but I'm hoping that wont be the case...

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as they are full of grease nothing is going to happen.

If you are not going to take the time to thoroughly clean and re-pack, just add what is already in each joint. Mixing grease types would be the worst mistake.

That's reassuring, thanks man. Good to know I can now move on from my cv axle maintenance. I've mentioned this in another thread but your reboot write up was excellent. Pretty much followed it exactly and it made the process a lot easier then I expected...& using the buckets to catch the grease made the job relatively clean, was able to do everything in my kitchen without dropping any grease on the floor. Have your write up bookmarked for the next time I have to revisit my axles for maintenance work.

I did repack with the same grease but still cleaned out all the old grease just to keep things fresh. Even though I was pretty confident that the tan grease was for the inner joint and the grey grease was for the outer, I did the opposite b/c the Toyota axle I was rebooting had the tan grease in the outer & I wanted to try and avoid mixing the grease...even though I cleaned out the old grease the best I could.
