Toyota dealership put to much oil in, what do you think?

So I went to the dealership to change my oil because its to cold here in Dallas right now to lay on my garage floor. I already purchased the oil (7 quarts) and filter to do it so I just brought them with me. They charged me $22 for the labor to do it. When I got home I checked the oil/level and it was high, almost to that uncomfortable level, so I'm reaching out to you guys to see what you think. Should I take it back and have them drain some, drain it myself or leave it. Picture of dipstick was while the engine was off.

Yep looks like it. One of the MANY reasons I refuse to go to a dealership. I do everything myself.

Yeah I think they went ahead and put all 7 quarts in there. What are we 6.2L? I usually do everything myself as well but I thought they could handle this little thing that they do on a daily basis.

Get a big sheet of cardboard to insulate you from the cold floor and some rags, you know what you need to do next.

Take the metal plug out of the oil filter housing. Use the plastic thing the comes with the oil filter to drain it. Drain out 1/2 a quart and you good should be least mess way to go about it. It wasnt that cold today, I'm I Austin and was in the shop most of the day. Close the door to kill the wind.:becky:

Yeah that sounds like the best plan. It's 28 here right now and strong winds lol. I'll have to take care of it. You think driving for a few days is ok or should I get on this right now?

I decided to drink a beer, think about it, looked at the NFL game on tonight (not to excited about it), then grab a second beer and go out there and drain some oil. Done deal. I guess if you want something done right, you do it yourself. Am I getting old by saying that? I don't care, its true.

I thought about that but I remembered on my '01 4Runner that the rockers are right flush with the valve cover so getting a hose down to the oil pan would be hard to squeeze by. Not sure on my '15.

I work in EMS. An idiot overfilled our ambulance so I used our portable suction to get a quart out of the dipstick line. For some reason I was surprised it worked

I would take it back to the dealership and have them do it right. Let them question the tech who did the oil change for you. Make sure you get management involved. If they did it to you, surely they have done it to others.

I just had my first oil change several weeks ago and this thread made we go check the oil level. Guess what? Mine is also over by about the same, if not more. I am guessing they round up to the nearest whole quart. So we probably have 7 quarts instead of 6.2.

I am not sure what to do as I have been driving it like this for over 1,200 miles with no ill effects.

Man, I'm going to be out in the cold checking my oil when I get home thanks to this thread. My dealership and I had quite a fun conversation after the oil change tech dumped oil all over my fuse/relay box of my brand new truck and also put the oil cap oil side down all over my brand new Odyssey battery and left oil all over the place. Needless to say I am very hesitant to ever go back to my dealership for service after this...

There’s something about Eli Manning’s mouthbreathing face that makes me want to get back to chores too. But it turned out to be a good game.

I hope it went well. The last time I had to do that, I dropped the plug in the catch pan and made a big mess. Lesson learned.

An overfill of 0.8 quart is highly unlikely to cause any problems. You'd have to overfill it by several quarts before any issues with thrashing and aeration would become apparent, and even then, the likelihood of catastrophic engine damage is low. I understand the OP has already taken the excess oil out, but if it were me, I'd just let it ride until the next oil change.

Well two things:

First, if you plan to keep the truck for ~10 years, and appreciate things done right, do everything yourself. No one cares more about your stuff than you do (with the exception of your kids, if you have any )

Second, get a Fumoto drain valve.
