4 light bars on that tundra? I think that's a little overkill don't ya think? Haha. The grill on the 4runner is terrible, other than that there pretty cool, kinda gimmicky, but I'd drive em. Haha.

I'm all in on this one. Simon DuMont is an icon 2nd Gen Free Skier. Not a household name outside the extreme skier world, but a pre Tanner Hall legend.

Concept/show vehicles are usually crushed after they serve their purpose. This one also needs to be burned.
I've argued this in multiple threads and multiple forums, it's why I paid 1000 dollars to ship a crippled FJ80 from FL to CO.
Toyota has no damn clue about the target market of its off road trucks and SUVs. It's why every 4x4 they sell off road stuff like lockers gets bundled with expensive technology and luxury packages, it's why the Land Cruiser is a bloated turd and can't be bought on the cheap with a cloth interior.
I'm going to Pirate 4x4 hell, but I think modern Toyota thinks that adding 4x4 is a luxury feature so that wealthy SUV buyers, with their leather and wood trim interior, 2 row DVD players, heated seats feel comfortable when they drive up the 1" of snow on their driveway. Toyota really feels that if they make another no-frills 4x4 4Runner with ZERO luxury and technology features, it won't sell. That may be due to poor sales of the FJ Cruiser in its last years, but that vehicle has had flaws from day one.
This douchebag cruiser, full of speakers that would drown in a water crossing, Oakley stickers that scream "I wear white sunglasses and Nike visors upside down like my frat brothers and harass women at the gym", deployable step rails that would shred on the first stump or rock and off the shelf lift, shows that Toyota doesn't care about real 4x4 owners. If they did, it would be a Trail with ARB bumper, custom rear bumper with tire carrier, 3" lift with UCAs, proper sliders, proper roof rack with recovery gear, snorkel, and breather tubes... maybe even a re-gear or a t-case with 2 low range gears.
With that said, once it warms up, I'll be repacking the diffs on my 80 series and hoping that it has no transmission damage.

What we call the SUV these days, which I will always refer to as a "truck" was born decades ago when someone decided to put a wagon body on a truck frame--because some people felt that they need more passenger space than a single cab pickup, but all the off-road capability.
Those weren't luxury vehicles, for the most part. All had cloth or vinyl interiors, manual transmissions, and were sparse on any features that weren't relevant to getting back on road.
We have Ford and rich soccer moms to blame for turning these into status symbols in the 90s. That had two side effects:
-4x4 SUVs were now associated with bloated luxury features, which led to more unfortunate consequences like pushbutton/electronic transfer cases, disappearance of manual transmissions, and worst of all: disappearance of the live front axle
-car-like ride became championed, which has led to the slow death of the BOF SUV (and the death of the live axle front and back)
The SUV has become the Crossover, the BOF has become a dinosaur that more and more companies are considering dropping off of their model line. Electronics and luxury features keep most of the people who would have bought a 4x4 SUV from affording one.
I don't think anyone cares, except for a few thousand forum subscribers, of whom only a few hundred would put money where their mouths are and buy a no-frills 4x4. And Toyota doesn't care about us.
Thus the douchebag 4Runner concept.
