Keep in mind that this is a 2011 and some of this is better in the newer models. But the new ones still have issues. I owned a 2006 (5 years older) G35 and the only real gripes I had with the electronics was the stupid joystick. Which actually worked better than the Toyota touch screen. And the silly orange digital read out from the 1970's.
Here are
some of the 2011 4tr problems.
The entire use model of the touch screen is not intuitive, the graphics are chunky, and the resolution is very low and the touch screen response is slow. I'm constantly asking did that work?
The nav is ridiculous to program. You can't program it via voice while driving. Then it asks for the city first. I should just punch in the address and have it validate it after I'm done. The zoom buttons are difficult to use. My location is always placed at the bottom edge, and it should be in the middle. Canceling the navigation requires like 3 buttons. Cause that's a good idea while I'm driving. I should be able to do that through voice command as well. The location of the nav unit should be higher, closer to eye level. The aspect ratio is too wide, I'm not watching a movie.
The icons on the nav screen are almost meaningless, and take up too much real estate. I should just have zoom and some basic info like miles or ETA.
You can't change the volume of a phone call from the volume knob or the phone. You have to go through a few menus, another good idea while driving.
The voice command is generally useless.
The display doesn't show a folder tree when connected to my iPhone via BT. I should see the folders and touch them to navigate. Instead I need to punch a bunch of buttons and wait for the ever so slow touch screen to process my ever so complex request. If the phone is the center console the BT doesn't connect. Get a real antenna.
I can't see rds messages while driving, the mode button on the steering wheel doesn't switch between FM1 and FM2. Then again why do I need two radio "modes" when I should just have a list of all my stations in one list? That means all stations, AM, FM, & Sat. I know Audi does it this way as many others do too.
The center display on the instrument cluster has limited information and some of that is redundant with the high center display. And why do I care what the barometric pressure is? None the less it show's bars when we use Hg. Why not use Pa or or Torr then?
BTW what the hell is "ECO"? I'm still getting 16 MPG.
If you want the automatic headlights you must have the DRL on, unless you do the "pin #2" mode. I shouldn't be forced to use DRL if I want my headlight to automatically turn on.
No memory seats on the limited. Maybe they changed this on later models?
The trip computer.. what trip computer? I can get miles on my 1950's trip odometer.
The fuel consumption screen only goes back for 30 mins. Then the history goes back months. Not sure what that is about?
Why do I need a calendar option? I can't see RDS info from the radio while driving, but I can make calendar event for tea with the Queen?
