If Toyota is the parent company, I'm sure they'll trim all the fat and impose a lot of quality control to turn Ford around. I don't see Toyota investing all that money unless they are confident they can turn the automaker on it's heels. Just my opinion...

It's not worth it in my opinion to merge toyota w/ ford. Toyota is going to be the Numero Uno car manufacturer next year and they're going to do that all bye themselves. Why muddy the water with a bastard child like ford when toyota already has the ingredient for success?

I really don't think toyota can use the same formula over here w/ the big F.
Ford is to top heavy, and there's too much to change in the entire supply chain. Have you been to one of their run down dealerships of late?

Ford should be bought out by a chinese manufacturer so that we can export cars out to asia. That way we can keep people employed over here and increase our exports at the same time.

Toyota will taint their name recognition here, but in asia, the ford name still has a lot of marketablility.

Not gonna happen. Toyota knows that Ford would be a huge anchor around it's neck. And my guess is that Toyota management is already aware that they have suffered some recent slippage in quality by growing so large, and that they've got to focus on quality control.
Getting involved with Ford would drag Toyota in the direction they don't want to go.

How can Ford export cars to China for a profit? Have you seen how cheaply China can produce products? If Ford cannot make money in the richest capitalistic market where their own plants and infrastructure is based at how can you expect them to exports cars to the other side of the world to a country where most people still only make a fraction of what the average salary is in the USA?

And yeah, you think we can do that with the UAW and Ford... (our people). And not to mention the trade barriers of a communist government. sheesh.

Dude, that is pretty far out.

I agree that a merger won't happen. I can see some sort of joint agreement for making certain models, like Toyota did with GM and the NUMMI plant (which still makes Tacomas). But Toyota would gain nothing from a merger except debt and a giant, expensive bureaucracy of an automaker.

I think Ford Executives need someone to write their big paychecks. Obviously smart consumers are not doing that any more. Therefore they're aming at big corporation to save own lazy arses. I hope that Toyota plays this smart and turns them down.

I certainly hope Toyota is smart enough to stay out of bed with Ford. Look what happened when Daimler (sp?) bought Chrysler. MB's quality went to crap.

I hate to drop some turd on this thread, but, Dude you obviously don't think BIG as its already being done with Buick.

China could save a tarnished GM brand
Buick set to sell more vehicles in the country than in all of U.S. ...

I hope this merge does not go through. I think this would bring the quality of Toyota down. This is a great way to move down to #2. On the other hand, I am sure Ford people would love this merge.

It just ain't right

I certainly hope not. I switched from Ford and am selling my 1986 Ford F-250 ("pre-fag" as it's known) because of Ford's support of gay marriage and all the gay activist activities.

See this site for some info on Ford's horrible actions.

Bill Ford needs to go if Ford ever wants to see daylight again.

The sin is.... the workers get screwed, the consumers get crappy vehicles, the top managers get $50 million bonuses, the American industrial sector goes down the toilet, and our grandchildren will have to learn Chinese to earn a living.

That's the greatest sin. and it's not the gays that are committing those sins.

Applying your logic...

Other industries and car mfgs make bad products, ship jobs overseas, pay big bonuses and speak different languages.

That's the greatest dislike. and it's not the Ford company that is doing this by themselves.

Doesn't make much sense, eh? :)

I understand the first part of your comment, and agree that poor morals and selfish business practices are killing the US economy and companies.

It's just the second part of your comment that doesn't make sense.

But in the end, I think the point we agree on is that Toyota should just step on the accelerator see who wins. (Hint, it's "us" the consumer)

On another note...

Ford can get back on track if they wanted to. As in any business, clean up your business practices first, then clean up your business.

One without the other is futile.

The creating of an "aversion to brandname" is killer for any product, which is what Ford continues to do.

Hello DiskDoctr,
I appreciate that you understand the first part of my comment
The second part was not about companies "speaking different languages".
Let me explain.
Over the past 10 years I've travelled extensively in Korea, the Russian Far East, and China. Today's China has several huge industrial cities, larger than New York, Chicago or LA. When you walk through these cities, all you see are giant constuction cranes everywhere, building new skyscrapers to house the offices of their new industries. South Korea is the same.
My point is, that the Asian industrial infrastructure is growing at a rate that 99% of the American populace can't even imagine.
And here, in America, a large part of our people are more concerned about gay marriage and preventing stem cells cures than they are about the demise of American industry.

But mostly, I was offended by your "pre-fag' comment, and the idiotic website you linked to.

The Jesus that I understand, from an excellent Jesuit education, taught that tolerance and love are virtues. Bigotry and hatred are not virtuous.

And speaking of love, allow me to invite you to comment on my thread regarding the features you love about your 4Runner.

God Bless You,

I am offended I had to see your comment about god blessing people and jesus. I would be less offended if fags got married, and lesbians adopted a bastard child. At least they are real, and not some scheme by the church to scare the hell out of people. Point is this is a 4Runner forum not a jesus freak web site.

Look at your original post:

You are talking about making cars here, keeping Americans employed and exporting vehicles to China. None of this is mentioned in the article that you quote from MSNBC.
Do you know why?

It is because Buick produces cars in China employing Chinese people. Gee, they only invested 3 BILLION in production inside of China. hmmm, think about that and see how your original idea cannot work.

Now, just to give you a little room to move Buick also produces cars in Austrailia for export to China, but I would guess to say that is not a large portion of thier China sales.

Look at the China section in this article. You should eat your own dropped turd.
