Toyota is lazy

I've been waiting for a new redesign Tundra for some time. With all of the new trucks from the big 3 coming out I guess Ill just purchase one of those this coming year. It's frustrating as many folks are waiting for Toyota to catch up and offer features that are standard in the competition. The design while elegant is getting old. The Sequoia is another one..10 years with no change. We almost bought one but the MPG was abysmal.

I hope Toyota wakes up and realizes they cant just rest on their reputation for quality and reliability. The domestics in my personal experience from owning a few over the past decade have been just as reliable as my other Japanese car/trucks.

Hopefully soon we start seeing some redesigns for the T4r/Tundra/LC/Sequoia etc.

Well it's working isn't it? Look at all the foolish Tacoma owners buying those cheap, quality control-ridden piles. You experience is just one, but on average they tend to be more reliable.

We continue to pay (in some cases overpay) for their 10 year old no-change vehicles. Why would they wake up? :popcorn::llama:
 
This is where being brand loyal starts to cost YOU money...

I much prefer a Silverado over a Tundra, and that's what I own. You can pretty much get into a 2500 Turbo Diesel for the cost of a Tundra.

All 3 of those options wipe the floor with Toyota in their respected applications. Heavy Tow, Off-Road, and Compact Off-Road & Tow with the mini diesel.

You have options, if you can get over the Toyota thing... While I have a Toyota 4Runner, its certainly not the only brand in the garage.
 
I hope when the Tundra redesign occurs the result us a much less bubbly looking truck.

The current line looks like an overweight diabetes ridden pickup compared to the smooth and boxy style of the F-150. Ford is beating Toyota on looks for sure with the F150 vs Tundra. I think the Tacoma is fine looking but recent Tundras look over-inflated and downright unpleasant.

I agree. We aren’t brand loyal.. I prefer Japanese makes , but have owned domestics with no issue. Wife’s current ride is a Yukon Denali. No issues in over 65k miles. My T4R as much as I love it comes nowhere close to it features and comfort wise (obviously different vehicles).

Im just a fan of Toyota and would love for them to throw a least a little bit of care regarding their truck and SUV line. I’ll probably be in a 19 Sierra or Silverado next year. When Toyota makes a new Tundra in 2025 I’ll check it out :)

I can't remember where I saw it, but these larger BOAs will be updated (new generation).

As far as crying about MPGs, any vehicle in the Sequioa's class will be as bad.

I think Toyota "lost it" about 10 years ago, but whatever. They still make a pretty good vehicle. Detroit catching up? Maybe, but I've been punched in the face (wallet) too often by them. I plan on NEVER buying/leasing a car from them. Ever.

I also very much like Japanese autos... come to think of it, past and present, everything aside from my Silverado is Japanese.

Toyota appears to be very conservative, but sometimes it seems like they really don't care. I thought it was bizarre to see a Limited Tacoma with the trim level that was actually on it when you compare to a Limited 4Runner. Night and day. No memory seats, no power seats for that matter, and just overall very skim.

They do a lot of things that appear to be a shortcut, lack of care, maybe a simple misunderstanding of what people actually want and will buy.

The US Markets unfortunate don't command the same off-road pedigreed products as their world markets. Really sucks for us, but at least you have people like Ford picking up the torch and running it though the Baja 1000.

I know Toyota has the pedigreed for off-road and reliability, but in this day and age with modern manufacturing and all. No reason any other manufacture can't fight towards the same goals.
 
Toyota isn't lazy. For whatever reason (CAFE standards, cost, sales volume, etc) they seem to be ignoring or intentionally neglecting their trucks. A lot of the updates people want to see and technology people are asking for is in other models in their lineup, and has been for a long time.

Check out a Tundra forum if you want to see how many people are frustrated by this as well, myself included. I've been considering the Tundra for awhile but can't bring myself to shell out top dollar for a design thats essentially 10 years old and lacking significantly in some areas when compared to the competition (fuel economy, interior storage, technology, creature comforts).

I started a thread on a Tundra forum asking when a re-design is planning to come..rumors etc. It must have been already deleted by mods. I guess its a bit of a sore subject?

I'm with you..I just cant pay that kind of premium only for the supposed reliability aspect. I take great care of my cars in regards to maintenance and preventative mx and most cars now days will hold up for 8-10 years no problem which is how long I end up keeping mine. I don't abuse them either so I tend not to really have issues with the various makes I've had over the years.

They obviously aren't hurting in the sales department, but I know they have to be losing out to the big 3 with their truck sales. I guess Toyo is fine with that?
 
The best thing you can do it vote with your wallet...

If more people simply did that and they saw a decline in sales, then perhaps you might actually start to see change.

Money talks, and the lack of it can talk just as loud.

Either way, even if the Toyota was up to snuff, I have grown pretty fold of American trucks, both Ford and Chevy/GMC. They make some really nice trucks.

Where are you finding a 2500 Diesel Chevy for 40k, that isn't just a work truck?

Problem is people want their trucks to do both. The crewmax and loaded up trucks are selling more than ever and the big three all have offerings out there that do a good job of both.

Reason people are frustrated is because Toyota has this stuff in other models. Its been tested and proven reliable in higher volume models than the Tundra. Even basic stuff like more interior storage shouldn't take a decade to add to the lineup. Toyota has lots of great innovative storage in other models.
