I'm not sure of the format of the these cards but if they use standard filesystems and store details as files you should be able to recover the data as long as you've not overwritten it with other files.

If this fails and you have a buddy who has the same Nav setup who is willing to let you borrow it for an hour or so I can provide more details on how to create an image of his to restore your chip.

What year is your 4runner? You might need a nav update anyway and you could just buy the most recent nav update micro sd card.

Do you have a Windows (or Linux) computer with an SD card reader? If so I can probably help via a remote control app. No promises that we'll get anything back but I'd be glad to try.
The basic process will be:
Make the SD card read only via the write protect tab (if possible)
Make an image of the current card to a file on your computer.
Use Recuva to try to recover the original files from the image file.
Write the recovered files out to a new SD card of the same size as the Toyota one.
Do you have an older chip that is still good? That would allow me to see what the intact file structure looks like and aid in recovery.

I think that J.A. from top4runners.com is on this forum, If so they used to sell Map update SD cards and might be able to provide more info.

the sd card has an odd format on it so since you did format the card all data is gone.
some have copied these cards and then had the correct format and sell them on ebay .. for like $80..
Toyota uses 2 yr old data on a new vehicle. so on a road I was on the exit numbers were incorrect.. also in North carolina the data on a portion of rt 70 was missing .

Boort, thanks for offering your procedure but its wont work because sd card was formatted in my GOPRO camera so there is no way to recover it. only disk mirroring from another car SD card as you mention before. Ofcourse ebay is an option for replacement but I would rather spend $80 for small mode. But I guess I'll have pay for my stupidity.
I bought a Garmin GPS from craigslist for $25. Life time map updates. In addition, I can plot my routes from Google earth then load them to the unit. This works extremely well when you are off road and there is no road whatsoever on any published maps. By looking at 3D Google Earth, I can plot a route along some trail or what looks like a trail and follow it on the Garmin. You can't do this with the Toyota head unit.

$80 is a small price to pay. the way I got to know of these recovery tools was nearly losing all of my photos for a 2 week trip to UK and Ireland. Had a bad reader and thought they were al backed up but they were all corrupt, had to recover the files form the orig chips. I figure that I got back 95% of the photos when all said and done.
As long as the GoPro did not write new data to the SD card you might still have a shot at recovery, but that will depend on the Toyota using a standard filesystem (vfat, fat32, etc) so that the recovery tools understand how to process the layout of the data.
I agree that imaging a known good SD card is the fastest route forward with the highest likelihood of success. (short of buying a new chip.)

I think you will find that copying is theft also. You are taking something that you did not pay for from someone that has that information for sale. But if you are okay with that, more power to you.
