Toyota OEM remote start turns truck off

My 2014 LE T4R will turn off after I remote start (OEM) when I get in the vehicle. This makes the remote start fairly useless. I found some information about a Fortin bypass but am clueless as to what it is. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm not familiar with the 14s but has it always done this? Are you trying to activate something before you go through whatever sequence is required to let the truck know you're not trying to steal it. Not sure if yours has a key or not, my gf's car will shut off if you do anything before you put the key in the ignition, to include tapping the brake pedal. The upside is that your truck is definitely under warranty and if something is truly wrong, Toyota will fix it.

That is standard for the OEM remote start system. There are several threads on here documenting attempts to bypass it, but as far as I can tell, none of them have worked.

The best way to get around it is to not get the OEM system and go with a Viper system or some other after-market solution.

That is an anti theft feature so no one hops in your truck and drives off while you're taking a shower.

Yes it is an anti theft device, a bad one though. The key bypass, however, requires that when you get in the truck, you have the key and push the start button twice with the brake pedal depressed. Then you are free to drive off. Without the key in the car it would be impossible to steal. I am looking for anyone who has the bypass figured out.

The fortin bypass module is just another one of many aftermarket modules that can bypass the RFID transponder in your key...it has nothing to do with bypassing the factory shut off function when you open the door. If you want to bypass that you need to get an entirely new aftermarket remote start installed, and your factory remote start removed. The factory remote start is heavily integrated into the wiring harness so I doubt there's just a simple wire you can snip or jump to accomplish what you want to do.

Just got my Clifford RS installed. Mine was honking the factory alarm horn when I would remote start it while it was armed. Took it back to the install shop and learned this was not right. Apparently the installer had to re-wire it differently for my rig because the bypass module is supposed to automatically disarm the factory alarm when you hit the remote start button. It keeps the doors locked, however. You may want to have this checked out by the installer since it is not supposed to set your factory alarm off when you start it.

OP, IMO aftermarket RS systems are the way to go.

I agree, this was an option that was on the truck I wanted so it came with it. I am still not 100% convinced that it cant be reconfigured. This is the only reference I have seen that references the bypass.

Untrue, look into the Fortin bypass as it can be installed either way. With smartkey takeover you can enter the car and it stays running until you press the brake. You can also press the start button twice and it's ready to drive without having to restart.

Simply put, its bypassing the transponder key, and not "bypassing" this one feature you're thinking about.

Well that has been the same function with the dealer installed RS's since at least 2007 for Toyota. Lame in my mind but I used to have a nice viper system.

With full knowledge of the door open = engine stop 'feature' I recently purchased and installed the OEM remote start system. I chose to go with OEM to avoid any potential electrical problems.

The main use for me is to be able to leave the vehicle with my dogs inside, with the engine and a/c running for 15 minutes.

Well that has been the same function with the dealer installed RS's since at least 2007 for Toyota. Lame in my mind but I used to have a nice viper system.

The GM was told along with some other dealers that changes were made to the RS. But that was not the case.
