Toyota Off Road Premium with no emblems?

I was looking through car sales sites and came across this 2017 4runner. I've come across a few more like it. The problem is they say its a 4runner TRD Off Road Premium, yet there are absolutely no TRD Off Road emblems on the sides. Can anyone explain that to this newbie 4runner fan? :target: Oh and I looked at pics and it has 4WD Atrac/crawl control, rear power window, etc. Do dealers ever try to sell online like this and show you a base model for sell then take pictures of inside of a completely different trim to trick a buyer? lil confused.

Even the base model SR5 has side emblems. If it has all the right equipment to be a TRD ORP then my guess would be the previous owner simply debadged it.

Fwiw, the wheels and silver valence are consistent with an OffRoad.

Aaaah. It says personal or rental use...maybe it was a rental cause its kind of high mileage for a '17. The rental company may have taken them off?

Lots of people de-badge their rigs. For a cleaner look or easier to wash and wax. It’s a little bit of trouble to do it and then remove the adhesive residue. I can’t imagine a rental company bothering with it.

It's an offroad, no need to really waste any time dwelling on the badge that is just stuck on with vhb. You can also tell in the pics because it has a manual transfer case

It's just a plastic sticker. I removed mine the first day I bought the car. They look stupid and tacky.

It doesn't need to be Premium to have KDSS and crawl control. I have a TRDOR, non premium that has both of those.

The "TRD Off-Road" models were formally called the "Trail" model (I believe prior to 2018). In those models they did not come with side badging because there was no such thing as "TRD Off-Road". So you could tell a SR5 (had side badging), Limited (had side badging), TRD Pro (had side badging) and Trail (current TRD Off-Road with no side badging) apart. It is the same thing as the current "TRD Off-Road" minus the badging. So it is probably listed as "TRD Off-Road" because the configuration matches the current model name, but at that time it was called the "Trail". Just something Toyota did for sales, because if it has "TRD" on it with a different front skid plate they could mark up the price a couple thousand dollars.

Edit: People used to actually make and sell "Trail" side badging because it didn't come with a badge from factory.

I think 2017 is the year they switched from Trail to TRDOR, but it could have been debadged.

Now, in their infinite wisdom, Toyota brought the Trail name back in a down market trim.
Honestly, I don't know why they didn't have TRD naming already and be consistent with the rest of the brand.

I'm sure the point has been made with others in this post. But, I'm one more example of a buyer of a VIN-proven TRD PRO that had no badge on the back hatch. I actually like it that way too.

I bought my 2020, brand new, with 3 miles on it from a dealer in Memphis TN, with no badging on the sides.

in Canada I've only ever seen a badge on the SR5. I have a limited with no badges (it was not de-badged). I would be more concerned of the rental use than the badging

I bought my 2016 Trail Premium new, off the lot. No badging. Two other Trail premiums on the same lot were the same.

For sure it’s either TRD ORP or a Pro. Take a look at the light stalk. If it has auto lights, it’s a Pro.

I think the pro was missing the side mirror blinkers too.
