Toyota - Smart Chip Update?

Got a memo from Toyota offering to add smart chip update to turn off engine under certain conditions, e.g. accelerator and brake being pressed at the same time.

Is this still fallout from the San Diego crash years ago?

i didn't do it... some times i power brake (pressing gas while on the brakes) i don't think we have a problem with our cars moving by them selfs, most of the crap put there are old people who mistake the gas for brake. and some just want attention like that sykes guy with the prius in san diego... that idiot

Yep search "smart stop recall" on the forums. Doesn't effect my daily driving, and it doesn't come on in low range when wheeling.

They did that to mine when I took it in for something else and never said a word to me, only noticed it when I looked at the paperwork when I got home. They also cut the accelerator pedal.

I think I'll pass. I would hate to be in 4WD with the diff locked and some some smart chip drive for me.

The dealership did the same thing to me. I didn’t notice till I looked at the paperwork as well. Would be nice for them to inform the customer of what they’re doing prior to doing it.

It doesn't really "drive for you" I think it just cuts the engine off if both pedals are pressed and I believe it is only when going highway speeds.

I received the notice but won't be getting the update. I figure the longer I keep the truck out of the dealers hands, the longer it will last!
