I was finally able to get mine to work, love not having the annoying chime and the remote window roll down! I have a Macbook, so I ran Windows 7 32bit through bootcamp, still couldn't get the program to connect to the 4Runner, so I tried running the virtual XP mode and it worked like a charm!! :bigok:

So how do you change any settings? I just got a copy of Techstream and a Mini VCI but when I tried it I couldn't find any way to change any settings. I can look at all the values and even test some of the subsystems but can't change anything. I'd like to be able to change some settings like turn DRL on or make the beeps louder when the remote locks the vehicle but there's no option for changing settings that I can find so how do you do it?

note the software is a free download w/ the subscription (which starts at $55)--the cables however start at $500 (the mongoose specifically). The chinese ebay sellers seem to be selling knock off versions of the mongoose cables.

That doesn't make any sense. Are you saying the type of cable has something to do with the options that show up in the program?

Yes, absolutely. A certain type cable is necessary - on techinfo.toyota.com (I believe) you'll read about how this or that cable is or isn't certified, or may or may not work. The 'mongoose' cable is the one that is recommended to be used, and I suspect, a very similar cable is what our chinese ebay sellers are providing.

Hence, install techstream from techinfo.toyota.com and only use the cd that comes with the knock-off cable if you must for driver purposes (likely you will have to). There's version 8x something now--not that that would matter, but I think it's better to have a legitimate subscription to the TIS service rather than a hack.

I'm using the Mangoose cable but the program will run without attaching the cable so I can change the VIM cable type from the Mangoose J2534 to the Techstream TIS in VIM Select but it still doesn't give me anymore features in the program. There isn't even a way to clear Check Engine Light errors like there are in other programs, even the free ones. I've got Ver. 7.20.037 of the program, which seems to be the latest one but I don't know if I got a cut down copy of the program or everyone else who said it works is lying?
Also, is there any place to download a manual or directions for using the Techstream software that would show where hidden features in the program are located?

I had the same problem...not sure if this is the best method but it worked for me.

I scrapped the CD that came with it all together. I downloaded the techstream software through P2P and sourced a copy of the driver online. Installed and it works!

I am trying to find the link to the driver I used but coming up short at the moment, I know I can't be the only one who went this direction though...

Well I have a P2P version of Techstream I could try but how is that any different than the one that came on the disc? Are there different versions, some of which don't do anything much, for dumb dealers maybe? Another thing I noticed is that I thought I should be able to do things like program a new key or tire pressure monitor to work with the car but there's no option in Techstream to do anything like that either.

I believe there is dicussion about a work around for the counter earlier in this thread.
Not sure how they did it but the copy that came on the mini-CD I got works without a counter. There was a readme file with instructions warning not to change certain parameters, IIRC for country location and dealer code (something like that.) Version 7.20.041.

Don't try to connect online....it does not work.

The version that comes on the CD, or any other version for that matter, will work without the counter when the hack on the CD called Tiskey is installed but it seems to remove most of the features from the program too so even though it works it's useless then! There doesn't seem to be any way to make it work and keep in any useful features to make it useful at the same time.

For me, when clicking on, say, "windows" or whatever, I'll see a "please wait" box, and then that disappears. I'll leave the laptop there for minutes waiting, but nothing ever happens. I clicked the "reset all settings to default" box (the one that's right next to the right arrow that you click to customize) and that re-set everything back to default.
