I've just received my mini vci cable and got techstream working on my 2015 TEP.

I wasn't able to find the setting for enabling the factory alarm like I've seen on other posts for '10-'13 4Runners. Anybody have any luck with that on a '14-'15?

Where did you order your cable from? Would appreciate a link. Also have a 2015.

From one post I read if you try and open a door from the interior while the car is locked (like thru an open window) the alarm will sound. My SR5 Premium does this despite the dealer claiming they disabled the OEM alarm.

I did not look at the security options. Right now the cable is with my brother in Dallas.

So I received my cable today. First off, the mini CD does come with some form of Trojan virus. I highly recommend installing this on an isolated virtual machine, this is what I did.

This being said, it works great! I disabled seat belt warnings and enabled window roll down via key FOB very easily. I'll explore more options later tonight.

So I never was able to find an alarm setting on Techstream but...

I found out my car had the alarm already enabled! Turns out when I initially tested out for the alarm, I didn't know that the alarm does not activate until after about 30 seconds. I was opening my door before the alarm activated. So this time I waited and noticed the security light blinking in the center console. This time the alarm went off when I opened the door without the key fob. :banana:

I also got the MVI driver files from the above link. Warning the driver files contain a trojan. I used a antivirus app to clean the app up once I installed the drivers.

The cable from amazon + the above software worked like a charm. I didn't even have to change the setting to 0 from 1... It was already done.

I finally got mine working today.
Had to install VMWare Player, boot a copy of Windows XP onto that, then install Techstream (version 10.00.028) and the MVCI driver along with editing an ini file.

Pretty simple all in all.

If you can't get MVI connection upon connecting to the vehicle, make sure the key is on past the ACC (in my case I just started the engine) and if that's not working, try swapping USB ports on your laptop. Two out of three of my USB ports were too wiggly and weren't maintaining a connection.


All in all, I got rid of the seat belt chime, changed my units of measurement from miles/fahrenheit to km/celcius and turned off the auto door lock feature when shifting out of park.

Time to see what else I can pull off with this thing.

1). Install TOYOTA TIS
2). Install MVCI driver

How to active Toyota TIS techstream 10.00.028?
Open IT3System.ini
C:\Program Files\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\ Env\IT3System.ini
Change TISFunction=1 to TISFunction=0
Save
All ok

Important note about Techstream Area Selection:
Choose Europe, otherwise you will get error message: Unable to Connect to VIM

Time to see what else I can pull off with this thing.

Like rolling the windows down with the key fob? Yeah, I love that feature! You can also roll the windows up with the key in the driver's door, but for some dumb reason, you can't do it with the key fob!

And while you can also pop or roll the sunroof open with the key fob, nothing will close it (fob or key in door) except for the actual switch in the headliner.

They were close, but didn't quite get it right. I give Toyota a C+ for this one!

I still have yet to test the alarm feature, I think it just adds on glass breakage, but can't be for sure. Haven't found a full guide online to what all can be done with TIS, but I've gone through every menu and haven't found too many things I want to screw with.

okay so i downloaded the TIS techstream newest version and its running on my windows 7 64 bit perfectly. I tried installing the MVCI drivers for the cable and it keeps saying the process of downloading ended prematurely. What am I doing wrong???

Windows 7 is why you can't run it. Install Virtual Machine with win XP from Microsoft and your issues will go away.

I Purchased the Mini VCI cable and techstream software on amazon. I was able to run it on my Windows 7 (64 bit) computer by downlaoding and running a Virtual machine (Windows XP). The software was easy to install and I was able to set the windows to roll down by holding the wireless key's unlock button and turned the seatbelt chimes off.
