Someone on their press team had an “oh crap” moment.
In addition to the new model, they mentioned updates across the TRD Pro lineup, so hopefully that will shed some light on the changes we’ll see (or not see) in 2020 for the 4Runner.

Now, this is GREAT news for me...i have been eyeing a Sequoia...or a Land Cruiser (kinda too $$$$)...but a Sequoia TRD PRO may be perfect for me!
Waiting for tomorrow........feels like Christmas all over again!

They better do something. Almost all of Toyota’s models save the 4Runner and 1 or 2 other models had awful sales last year. They seem to have the gm too big to fail disease where the largesse makes everything take forever to be upgraded. With the raptor ranger, Colorado bison, bronco, defender, etc. coming down the pipe hopefully Toyota has a response.

Me to, I never thought this would happen, I've been looking at a certified used LC, but a Sequoia TRD Pro may be a better option, still will probably be well north of $60K though.

Toyota also announced upgrades for the rest of the TRD Pro lineup. The Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner TRD Pro models receive a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. The Sequoia gets a version of the upgraded infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, however. Tacoma and 4Runner receive a few exterior updates, and push-button start is now standard across the TRD Pro lineup.

The Tacoma TRD Pro gets new headlights, LED fog lights and a new wheel design, in addition to new tech borrowed from the Land Cruiser. The 4Runner TRD Pro gets a new grille and two USB ports for the back seats. Every TRD Pro vehicle now has standard keyless entry, too.

The 4Runner TRD Pro gets a new grille design and all versions of the 2020 4Runner finally come standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warnings, and automatic high-beam headlights. The 2019 4Runner was the last Toyota to lack that suite of advanced safety tech.

To be honest, I am kind of sad to see the 4Runner start to lose it's old school, and simple identity.
Don't get me wrong, I like tech features especially the 8" screen with Android Auto. However, 1 of the coolest things about the 4Runner is how it reminds me of older generations trucks. One of my favorite trucks is the FJ70

So this is the second mid-cycle refresh essentially as the exterior and interior are going to be essentially the same. So maybe 2024 for a completely new re-design (6th Gen)? Or never?
I like having a key. More technology, more things to break. Will all this new technology help or hurt their sales? Who knows.

This "beast" announcement was meh.
Maybe they can add a locking gas tank? That would be cutting edge...
