Toyota V8's Are Fast

In a recent post a member was trying to decide between a Gen 4 V6 or V8. Some members posted that the 4.7 V8 are quick and do a very good job moving the heavy SUV around. Others laughed and said fast and quick can only happen in a sports car. “I am not a wise man…” Forrest Gump, but I do know that cars that are lighter have a greater hp to weight ratio are going to be faster. But for a truck the little 4.7 V8 is pretty darn good.

Look at the recent article. The Toyota 5.7 V8 in the full size Tundra is listed in Yahoos “Fastest Cars Under $50,000".

Toyota is renowned for its V8 engines and for its solid trucks. Put them together an you have a seriously quick pickup.

I ran a 16.2@84 in the v6 runner. That's pretty quick for a 4470lbs SUV in my book. Only ran it because civic broke that day and I was itchin to get down the track lol haven't seen any v8 times but doubt it because who drags their 4runner?

While I agree the V8 Toyota in a pickup may be a very fast vehicle...being fast is NOT a reason I buy a truck. That requirement isn't even on my radar. I don't want something that's slow..but I don't need a fast truck.

16.2 for a stock v6 4r doesn't sound bad to me either..

Anyone know what a basically stock TRD supercharged v6 4r does? Or one with basic bolt ons?

The "Trifecta" combo of GDI, VVT, and Turbocharger(s) makes a pretty strong argument against that old saying... but they come with their own pile of problems.

I have a 03 sport v8 and all the guys at the shop would make fun of me and my v8 t4r... till one of them took it to go run a errand for me... they all zipped up when the tech said it was def more then he expected! i just smirked and walked away

and i buy trucks because their fast! :amen: and other reasons..

My wife's Focus with 160hp will run a 15.9 (that's pretty slow) and a Rav4 with the V6 even runs 14.7 so it really depends on the what the engine is in. I've read of the 4th gen V6 running 15.8 with the V8s just a couple tenths ahead and mid 15s for a 4Runner is decent.

I'd like to see Toyota drop a V8 into an affordable sports car.

Since upgrading from a 3rd Gen with the 3.4 to a 4th gen V8 is obviously a huge difference to me. I have the SE with full time 4WD and it moves. Im not out there drag racing mustangs but when I need to move and move quick, it does haul ass. I find myself going 75+ on the highway sometimes without realizing it. I wouldn't say it's a speed demon but it's got some sack to it. Im a Toyota V8 fan cause of my 4runner!

I used to own an 06 f250 with the 6.0...that was fast! Diesels are so much fun, but expensive lol

I don't know how well the v8 is in terms of "get up and go" but the v6 is super picky! 4x4 mode and going from a roll can help out a ton though. Mine picks when it wants to break loose. Sometimes it moves and sometimes it feels just "ok" to me. Is the v8 the same way? These Runners can be monsters on the road when they want to be.

My V8 runner feels like a new car now that it has started to warm up again, its quieter, quicker, and just feels better, plus i rarely get that driveline clunk anymore which is great. So I've figured out I shouldn't live in a place with a cold winter because my car hates it

My V8 feels like that as well. Ive noticed now that spring is around, My 4runner loves the 50-60 degree weather especially on the highway. I feel like that is the "optimum performance" range where my V8 feels really peppy!

Had a helluva time finding one, too, as most in my area were V8, & I just couldn't bring myself to driving 2 V8's. But ya'll keep bringing it up & I keep thinking, hmm, my 4R's gonna lag once I put my lift & 285's in next week...

Honestly i forgot it was like 08' when i ran her. Vid on youtube i get slaughtered by a 10 sec all motor camaro lol fun times!

Keep the v6 and throw on some headers and tuning. Thats pretty much all I have and I run rings around porsches, fc's fd's, rs mustang, RS miata's etc.
