Toyota's credibility being questioned

Back in the "day" as it is now called, the Big Three, Ford, GM and Chrysler intentionally prevented the American public from knowing anything about their vehicles safety. The Pinto's gas tank was originally designed out as a safety risk but kept on the assembly line due to the cost of a change out. It was the tip of the iceberg. Lack of seatbelts, collapsible steering columns, and goodbrakes and tail fins able to puncture body parts all led to numerous deaths on our roads. Madison Ave PR and the Big Three got out the vaseline and had the party until Ralph Nadar came along. He single handedly changed the landscape by suing the pants off these lying companies. As a result Americans turned to Japanese automobiles and reinforced the image of reliability in the mind of most customers. The monoliths of Detroit, culpable of fatal greed took 2 decades to catch the wind living in palaces in Dearborn Mich and worrying more about their golf handicap. The American dream but only for the lucky few.

The oil embargo further enhanced the choices of Honda and Toyota. Lean, somewhat sporty these vehicles saved $ were more reliable than ANY vehicle produced by Detroit and sipped gas. That Toyota is now having reliability problems should come as no surprise, hell that trend was predicted here on T4R.org years ago by the members here.. Greed has many faces and apparently no culture is immune to it's grip.

I would not trade the Beast for any American made vehicle....ever. The Big Three had to be humiliated brought to their f'n kees economically and forced to change. They did not give a damn about the driver, only their profits.:hunter:

It still remains that there are a specific set of circumstances required to reproduce the problem, there's a fix on the way, and the likelihood of serious accidents as a result of that specific set of circumstances isn't THAT HUGE. You can talk about this problem in specifics (ABS) or generalize (brakes). Your way makes it sound worse. THATS THE POINT.

Thai is like a cyber-bully who would normally get beat up in school, but the difference here is that he's a founding member of this forum so he can make people get banned or have their words deleted. I've seen it over and over again for years now. Outside of this forum, he would be torn to shreds by anyone with an ounce of common sense. But inside this forum, nobody can beat him. So, two things. This brake issue is not isolated to the US...even the folks in Japan have complained since the Prius introduction last year. In addition, as YOU can see, i am not even sure if this brake performance issue is even related to ABS kicking in. Not sure about you, but my ABS does not kick in when i brake over a bumpy road! As noted above by me, my brother's 2010 Prius can be made to replicate this problem easily over a small bump. In fact, from the FACTS, it seems like this brake issue can happen quite frequently. My guess is that many Prius owners chalk it up to the hybrid brake feel and not realize that they had no brakes momentarily. My brother is in this group...he thought that it was "normal" for the Prius brakes to do that. And it looks like Toyota realizes the REAL problem of this issue and thus has moved quickly to fix it.

Interesting how this article alleges that Toyota knew of the sticking gas pedal problem with their vehicles in Europe yet played dumb when the problem started surfacing in the USA. If this turns out to be true, then I personally believe that Toyota deserves all the CRAP they have been getting, and more, about their problems.

More ammunition for the Congressional hearings coming up soon I suspect....

The FJ just does not get any breaks!! First, the rear axle grenaded on early models, then the fenders bend and crack, and now this...and my other brother has a FJ! I need to keep my mouth shut when my family goes shopping for cars!
