toytec 3" ultimate kit with 285/75/16 or 265/75/16???

i bought a 98 4x4 srs 4runner couple weeks ago. yes its a dailydriver and will be a weekend wheeler soon. i need your guys help.truck needs new suspension so i was about the buy toytec 3" ultimate kit and xd series 16x8endruo black wheels with tires. i run nitto tires on my truck and my mustang love them. so i probably will go with the terra grappler. what size tire would you guys run?? also anyone have pics of a setup similar to this?

Nitto makes great on road tires....but their off road tires suck. You'd be MUCH better off (depending on the terrain) with the new Goodyear MTR or BFG MT...

with that set up you should be able to run the 285/75 with no problems, that what I ran for years, you "might" have to pound down the pinchweld, but super easy.
 
Visually 285's look better, but they will cause you to lose a good big of MPG around town. They also require more power to get them moving.

i know the 285 most def. will look the best. but how much will that hurt my power and my MPG???

what mods could be done for getting the power to move the 285? and trying to keep that MPG. im getting like 17.5mpg stock now?

thats true, but IMHO its not much, I rode with the 285s for about 3 years untill I finally regeared, lol and they IMO are better for off-roading.
IIRC the MPG drop was something really small, like maybe 2 mpg, it didnt bother me a bit, I just remember someone somewhere online had a chart, lol your driving style will have a lot to do with it also, you have to remember, your driving a lifted SUV, NOT your Mustang, lol

From the looks of things were going 285 and were going to lose about 2mpg. Gotta take chance, plus im going running the nitto's that may help some LOL. yes the mustang sucks on MPG but i drive that car like an idiot anyway. my Silverado 5.3L sucks on gas too. and sold my accord for the 4runner.

regear it.. or like already said S/C. you will lose power and fuel economy, but IMHO if your THAT worried about fuel economy, maybe you should sell the 4runner and buy a Honda, lol we are only talking about loss a FEW mpg.
Check the boards, TONS of people are running 285s some are even running 34s and 35s lol
 
MXRACER- I am running the 285/75's on my daily driver and I was getting 18.9 w 265/70's now I am getting 17.4 consistently with 285's.. I am even running the NTG's. Go to the Off-Road section and thread Post Up your Flex shots (2nd to last and last page)and you will see how mine looks. Same front kit as you want only I have the FJ80 LC coils in back. Wheels great and still good on road.

im not really worried about the mpg. im thats taking your guys advice since you have already been through this stuff. next question. no go on a S/C aint going spend that kinda money. what kind of re gearing would you do. how much gear?? i changed my mustang gears- i run 410s. best money ever spend.
 
Stock you are more then likely 4.10's. I am a 98 V6 Auto and when I re-gear I am going to go 4.88. Some people are even running 5.29's. the difference between 4.56 and 4.88 at highway speeds is about 200 RPM so the added torque and power go to 4.88 IMO

If you don't care about MPG, definitely go with the 285's.

mines a 98 auto also. the 4.88s sounds about right. the 5.29s seems little too tall of a gear.
