Toytec Boss rear shocks

To add a bit of uncertainty to all this, I did have the 883s with the OME 90004 shocks and sure enough, rode like rocks.

Had a gift card to 4WP and decided to swap the shocks for some tundra 5100s and it's night and day different. Still firm, but not jarring at all. My fender liners will also tell you that I have no trouble stuffing the tires offroad.

My reasoning was that the 883s are rated at 590lb/inch and the Eibachs that a lot of people are running are rated at 620lb/inch. That got me thinking that maybe it was the shocks, and not the springs that were causing my rough ride.

I agree about the Eibachs. My buddies Eibach toytec ultimate coilovers rides so bad. He can barely keep the front end to stay on the road when he is hitting wash board. Same with his OME rear billy setup. I installed the lift for him years back and he was upset mine rode so much better. I was surprised how bad the Toytec Ultimate handled on dirt road/washboard. Does great on road and rock crawling.

The 881's with 90004 is perfect. 883's would feel a bit better on Billy's but if he is not adding weight for a long time I dont recommend he go with 883's.

What kind of rear setup was he using? I've been reading that a lot of people like the 890 with Bilstein 5125 setup.

I can remember, OME and billys that came with his Utimate kit for standard weight I believe.

I think they changed up the kit since then. The rear they use the Toytec brand coils and boss shocks or procomp.

Agreed. I thought I was going to be getting a bumper a bit sooner than I was which is why I went with them to begin with.

After a few years though, someone finally slid into my rear bumper in the snow and caused enough damage for a check from their insurance. I'll be paying Addicted Offroad a visit pretty soon...

I bought these shocks - the ones without resis. They look pretty decent and Toytec has excellent customer service, so I'm not really worried. Plus they were only $200 so if they don't last I won't be too upset.

I wish the Toytec boss kit I got was solid. Seems the first couple months I snapped the rear shock and the other blew seals. They replaced the sheared off one warranty style, but haven’t taken the other off to do those same tasks. I keep on bottoming out as soon as a person sits in the back when hitting a little bump. I love the front coil overs though. Super adjustable and I haven’t had much issues in the front yet. Need to do some more research but should I just replace the rear shocks with something a bit more reliable? Or would I have to do rear shocks and springs?

I have the Toytec BOSS setup.. When I first got it I had Superflex and Bilsteins in rear... Then after the wreck I put 861's in rear with BOSS rear shocks. The BOSS rear shocks ride the same to me as the Bilsteins. I haven't been off-road with them yet but I'm not concerned with the quality one bit. I have a lot of weight on my runner with no issues... my two cents.

How did the boss rears go with the 861s? Are the shocks long enough for the height of the springs?
