Toytec lift kit for TRD Pro...need spring compressors?

So I bought this lift kit before I even got the rig home and have had it sitting in the garage. Still looking at the icons, Kings, and maybe the OME BP51s to put on this spring as I’ve added some weight to the rig. I’m off work till the 27 and a little bored. Since I already have the kit figured Id put it on.

I know there are ways to change struts and all without using a spring compressor.....unless I had a professional compressor setup, I just don’t trust myself with those 50$ kits....

One way to find out I guess!! Also. Anyone wants the TRD suspension this spring it’s yours so long as you can do a local pickup or pay shipping.

I've done the way that your Youtube video shows. it works pretty well, actually better than when I used those crappy compressors that you rent from your local auto parts store.

YES! This is for sure the way to do it, a buddy and I busted out all four 5100s on my rig in less than 4 hours.

If we were to do it I would guess we could probably do it in 2.

Just be sure to do the final torquing of the lower strut bolt once its on the ground otherwise the bushing will get all twisted up.


Follow these steps regarding torquing and suspension stabilization:

install the lower shock nut temporarily (not to full torque), stabilize suspension (lower the vehicle, bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the suspension), then tighten the lower shock nut to 70 ft-lbf.

the front lower ball joint attachment on the LCA should be fully torqued to 118 ft-lbf prior to stabilizing suspension

the upper shock bolt is fully torqued to the top hat at 18 ft-lbf prior to re-installation on the vehicle as well

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but which Toytec kit did you get? There are some that you will need a spring compressor for and some you wont.

Yeah you'll either need a spring compressor or go with the method in the video. I've never tried installing anything that way, and I'm sure Toytec would recommend against it. But I don't see why it wouldn't work. You'll have to be careful just like you would if you were using a spring compressor!

Yeah you'll either need a spring compressor or go with the method in the video. I've never tried installing anything that way, and I'm sure Toytec would recommend against it. But I don't see why it wouldn't work. You'll have to be careful just like you would if you were using a spring compressor!

Agreed. I have adjusted my 6112 3 times now, a only used compressors the first time. Each subsequent adjustment was quicker and easier and a lot of that was due to not using a spring compressor.

No problem!

Keep the link below handy for torquing stuff back together, the last number of the 3 is the one you want. Basically torque everything except the lower strut bolt when up in the air. Take care of those once on the ground and "stabilized".

Thought I'd chime in here. Our 1" front leveling kit does not need spring compressors to install. Now, the larger sized kits do, but not the 1", so install time is very short.

Above is the 1" kit and they are on sale, lifetime warranty and will never settle or compress.

Alignment is recommended, but I've had numerous people that knew they're truck was properly aligned beforehand tell me that they DIDN'T do an alignment and then later said when they checked it, it was still good. So, if you really need peace of mind, you can get one done, or just monitor your tires to see they are wearing evenly every 5k-10k miles

+1 for Jason's 1" leveling kit. Very easy to install. No special tools needed, just a socket set and a torque wrench. Less than 2hrs for the installation from start to finish. Truck looks better and feels better on the road too!
