Toytec No Help :(

Ok so several months ago I installed a Toytec 3" lift with diff drop and since then I have installed 5 CV boots (3 lefts and 2 rights) I called Toytec and asked if they have a fix for this and all I got was Doug was in a meeting and will call you right back this was Tuesday at 930 my time and its now Fri at 9 and Doug has never called. So now I need your help in trying to figure out why I am burnning through CV's so bad they last about 2 months. Front shocks are turned down as far as I can go without causing major rubbing. We did get another 5/8" drop but the drive angles still look bad. Guys at the shop are wanting to place some extra spacer's on the diff. I am about ready to sell the damn thing and move on to a different truck.

I thought some people were using a stronger boot to help w/ situations like this. The theory was that the joint could handle the angle, but the boot rubbed itself to death. I don't remember the company that made the boots off hand though.

he doesn't have a diff drop he's talking about the boys from the shop wanting to install spacers on teh diff, making a home brew diff drop.


he should should just spend the $30 on a diff drop and get the longer cv boots and all should be fixed.
 
also give it some time toytech is a regular poster here and takes pretty good care of us when help is needed even when we haven't necessarily bought or purchased anything and more so when some one has, he should pop his head in here soon enough.

He is probably adding more spacers to drop it lower. Interesting problem you have there

ha! good catch, that is weird, he's looking at a 4-5 inch diff drop then with extra spacers, is he sure the drop ever made it on the truck?

if you search around i think this is like a 1%'er problem, as in 99% of others with the same lift and drop have no problems and are very happy.

(didn't liny go through all of this, but not as extreme?)
 
Which Toytec 3" lift are you running? There's a lot of choices between coils and shocks. If you're running say 882s with top out spacers or 882s with adjustable shocks that aren't all the way down, there's your problem. Or 881s w/ a top spacer and adjustable shocks could be your problem. Tell us exactly what you have. What the hell are you guys talking about this diff drop? Does he have one or not? 4-5" on a diff drop, huh?
 
Hey patner, Darrick here from Toytec lifts.
I know the office can get totally crazy over there, sounds like the message got dropped getting to Doug, as I know Doug is very good about returning calls.

So lets talk.
Tell us your EXACTLY suspension setup as it is on the vehicle now. Pic's if you want to include.

Our stand 3 inch spacer would not cause those kinds of CV problems.
I would HIGHLY recommend the front diff drop installed!

i misunderstood apparently he has a drop installed but the boys at the shop are talking of adding extra spacers to the drop to drop it even more.

if that makes any sense, and it didn't to me that's why i was thinking 4-5 inches of diff drop really?!?!?!?!!!!!!

either he has the lift on wrong or the diff drop isn't on there, there's no way you would need to add spacers to the diff drop.
 
We need some pics here,

I can tell you, that when I installed mine, I put mine up way too high initially, the car was stiff as a board, you could push on the front bumper and get the front end to bounce off the ground... super not good, In fact, the pic thread in my sig has a pic of the Coilovers adjusted WAAY TOO HIGH...

I had the 1" diff drop and neoprene long 4wheel drive cv boots and I was still leaking...

If you got the adjustable coilover that was not preset and adjusted it too high, which is entirely possible, then you could easily have a problem.

pics would tell me right away...

Sorry all have had a very busy weekend, weddings, proms and work. Ok I have installed the 3" ultimate with diff drop I don't remember the spring numbers but I have adjustable front shocks I didn't change them or anything when installed I do know that they were a real B@$%h to put on. That was my main reason for calling Toytec to make sure I even got the right ones (not saying that they sent me wrong stuff just checking, It happens) so I am at a loss. Above pic's are left side before replacing boot and going down on the shock while up on a rack and the other one is of the diff drop installed.

Wow... 5 cv boots with that setting on the coilover? you should be fine...

What boots are you using? they have to be crap. I cannot think of another explanation. I would go after the maker of the boot... I cant imagine those being a problem.
 
CV Clamp

Question????


I have a Toytec lift and I love it BUT… the CV’s where throwing grease so I put hose clamps over the old OEM clamps and the CV grease problem was fixed. The BIG Question is, does the CV axel need to be balanced and could the hose clamps create a different problem down the road???

from my understanding it's not, you just put the clamps on and leave it, nothing else is needed, at least thats how the ther guys here seem to run it, i asked this question a few days ago
