Toytec superflex installed and now problems

These go on the coils themselves and not at the top between the coil and the body of the 4runner. I was thinking just the opposite of compressing the springs. I am going to jack up the rear end. This should allow the springs to decompress and I am hoping to get these on the coils where they are making contact.
I ordered a set and they came in yesterday. I'm hoping to mess with them today. I'll report back.
 
How would fuel line around the circumference of the coils add height? It's not going to increase the spring rate of the coils.
 
I think the coils he intends to put the rubber around are actually touching under static load, so putting in thick rubber would raise the resting height
 
^^Correct. I am going to put them around the coil that are static or always touching. When I was looking at the fuel line it seemed like I would gain some height from it. The Eibach coil sleeves are much thinner than the line I was looking at. Going to mess with the 4RNR now.
 
I got the coil sleeves on and I can tell a noticeable difference. However, they still "clunk" a little. I am sure that is due to the fact that I was unable to get the sleeve on all of the static coils. I looked at my coils and put the sleeves on the places where I could see the most wear. I would guess that you would need at least two and maybe three for each coil. At $14 each this is going to get pricey. Since I am already in this deep I think I am just going to bite the bullet and buy 4 more. They install easy. I just jacked up one side of the 4RNR which allowed the other side to droop enough to get the sleeves in.

Here are some pics. They are fairly thin, and have a bead of something sticky in the sleeve to help it adhere to the coil. Oh yeah, if you do this be sure to clean your coil before you put the sleeve on. As you can see I forgot to clean the passenger side one. I cleaned the driver and thought about going back and redoing the passenger side one but I figured I was going to be ordering some more and I can do it then.

I have been talking to Toytec and they just got some coil isolators/sleeves in from Eibach and said they would send some out to me for free. If you are getting this issue, I would contact them and ask as well. I believe this could also be related to my 1" lean to the drivers side, taking some load off the shorter passenger side coil, which is why maybe others don't notice the noise because they have more weight? I'm at total stock weight in the rear.

So fixing the lean could potentially help reduce or stop this clunk as well. I read about someone putting trim packers on the drivers side rear spring to help push the front passenger side down more to even out the lean. I'm going to try both.

That's good to hear that Toytec is giving the sleeves out. Too bad I already ordered more.
I'm not sure your lean and the clunk are related. The clunk is caused by the coil wraps contacting each other and making the sound. I'm not sure how your lean would play into that. Are you sure you have the coils on the correct side? I believe they are side specific, maybe you installed them on the wrong side which is causing the lean?
 
There are countless thousands of vehicles with progressive springs that don't have the individual coils in contact with each other.

I'm no expert but my thought on it is lean = less weight on the rear passenger spring, thus more gap between the coils. Maybe just enough to not be pressed together at normal ride compression. It's my understanding that the progressive top coils are intended to extend at flex to help keep the spring tension, so I would guess at ride compression, they would be contacting?

Either way, I want to fix the lean, I got trim packers which I was going to install but not sure how now without a spring cone bump stop. They are for sure in the 97 4runner diagrams.
 
Just to keep this thread updated with my attempts at solving the problem, I recently just put some rear spring seat isolators / cones in and 2 OME trim packers on the driver side which has helped the lean out quite a bit. Still need to measure but looks more level now. Also have 1/4" top plate spacer on front driver side as well. I think at some point I will just get the coilover perch kit so I can adjust them really well and might do so when I put more weight in the front via a bumper/winch.

Back to the clunk, nothing has helped. I have 2 coil isolators on the rear passenger superflex progressive coils, have moved them a few times but still clunks. I did however go for a long ride with lots of weight in my truck and 2 friends on the passenger side and it rode so smooth and no clunk, which makes sense from what I've been hearing. Most guys that I've found are running superflex with no problems have a heavier rear bumper but my 4runners rear is all stock. So next up is probably a rear bumper :(

One thing I'm going to do is play with my rear panhard bar and see if I can adjust my axle to a "sweet spot". I need to move it over a little because drive shaft made contact with gas tank skid. Hammered in the corner of the gas tank skid a little as well.

I'm willing to bet that both passanger and driver sides are making the noise. Put some isolators on your drivers side coils. When I installed my (one on each side) it got rid about about 90% of the "clunk".

Wow ok I'll try that. Got a pic or know which part you put it on? Ya I guess it sounds like passenger, but noise position is always misleading...
