Toytec superflex springs to give my saggy rear a 1.5-2" lift over level?

Hey everyone, I have an '02 4x4 with a full sleeping platform/rear cargo box that permanently resides in my truck. I'm running 265/17's and will be upgrading to King coilovers soon, but because I only have 265's I will only be setting them to about 1.5"-2in lift.

Because of the box my truck sags just a little bit, and when we're setup for camping the ass is even lower. I need to compensate for the sag I have now, and add about 2" of lift. I've searched read a ton of posts about springs; am I correct is assuming that the Toytec Superflex springs will accomplish this? Or maybe stock '99 springs?

Here's a profile shot, it's not too saggy, just a little. It's more noticeable in person I guess. I'd say maybe like 1in.

Here's the sleeping platform/cargo box. It probably weights about 100lbs total, maybe a little more or less (not quite sure) but it's all 3/4" birch, so maybe a little more. The front box is only for food and stove, and the cooler straps into the rear seat locks (dunno what to call them), so a lot of the weight is pushed to the rear.

As of right now, I'm going with the Superflex springs unless anyone says otherwise

I'm a newbie to this world so I can't say but I'm interested in the answer as I'll be putting some weight in my 2000 4Runner. I will say this, that is a hell of a creation. As an avid wood worker I appreciate the imagination and execution. Much props!

I am in a similar situation as you. I currently have a set of 906 coils that are giving me about 2 inches of lift with 100 lb cargo box. But fully loaded for a trip the springs cant handle the weight and I bottom out quite often. I also added a rear bumper that is still gaining more weight and Im going back an forth on the ome 891 or superflex coils because Id like to keep my front ride height about the same as it currently is without too much rake.

I would say for your situation take a look at the ome 890 or 891 coils. I think the superflexes may be a tad too long

The superflex could be too tall if you only want a 1.5-2" lift. I have the superflex coils and I am at a solid 3 maybe 3.25/3.5" lift in the rear with a steel rear bumper with swing out, a platform that is defiantly lighter than yours but still adds probably 30-40lbs, and a sub that is also 30 lbs, So I have at least 250 additional weight in the rear and it could be more. When I loaded it with camping gear for a 5 day trip I might have sagged .25-.5" so if you want a 2" lift with only the platform I would say the superflex would be too tall. They will probably give you a 3.5" lift or so. They are awesome coils but they are tall coils. Pictured is how it sits, Toytec Boss coilovers in the front at 3"... This was pre-platform but 30lbs isn't going to do much when there is already 200+ back there especially with a 285 on the swingout and two jerry cans.

from experience. The toytec superflex coils dont hold weight for jack shit. 400lbs and 3" is bs also

Yeah, that looks like it would be too tall. I was thinking it would add 3 inches and since I'm sagging about 1" it would be perfect. But I guess I shouldn't factor in the 1" sag, since the factory springs probably don't hold up to load as well as some of the aftermarket ones.

Ok, so any other suggestions besides 890/891's? Looks like the 891's are HD.... does that mean harsher ride?

I wouldn't think you would need 891s. Those are for really heavy loads at 3" lift I think. But I do not know all that much as far as other options aside from my experience with my superflex coils. I would almost wonder if a 906 would be good... Though they might be too short w/ weight. I would lean toward a 890 probably or the standard toytec rear coil. Both are a 3" at stock weight I believe... Hopefully someone with more knowledge will jump in and correct anything I may have wrong.

Here is mine with 99 springs in the front and OME 890s in the rear (The one on the right). I'm loaded up with camping gear, tools, food, and wood on the hitch hauler.

Im in a similar situation.... and can add a bit of info if it helps....

Ive got a 2000 on the BOSS toytec kit, 890's in the rear. Initially loved it, don't get me wrong, still do ride wise.

HOWEVER, with the 890s in the rear.... I carry an easy couple hundred pounds of tools and such in the rear with no extra ad ons weight wise.... and they have sagged pretty bad killing my 3" lift it once gave me.

890's not recommended if your going to do any weight...

on the other hand.....

can anyone recommend what springs i can change them out to, to maintain a 3" lift or even a little more that won't sag, and can carry the weight well?? don't mind harshness if ends up a result of the new coils (after all, it IS a truck)

considering 891's but i feel like they won't be much better. thought maybe the super flex cause they are supposed to give about 3.75" and thought maybe they'd sag at most down to what i need....

suggestions??

I'd go with OME 891 or 906 for sure. They're stiffer so they'll accommodate for weight.

Well lucky for you since I realized the Superflex were the wrong spring for my setup, I've bee searching my butt off and find this thread that sounds perfect for you.

From what I gather you may also want to look into OMC LC 861 coils, but if you're not heavily loaded all the time it will likely be too tall.

Oh and here's another good thread:

Up to you, but you might also consider LC 7 wraps. I am running King 2.5s up front and LC 7s in the back with Tokico black shocks. It would have rake when empty, but when you start loading gear and your box in the back it will compress somewhat.

Here is what my 4Runner looked like right after I added my lift with 265/75/16s. Mind you, there is no weight in the back. I really love this suspension combo.

Awesome!! This is exactly what I needed. ...yeah, that's definitely too high for me. I'm going not going to dial up the fronts as much as you, so the LC 7 wraps would be way too high for me. Looks like right now I'll go with the 890's, as I only want about 1.5-2" of lift. That should rake me slightly when not loaded and hopefully level out when in adventure mode. It's just me and my GF and we pack light.

Down the road when I bump to 285's I could switch to something taller. How are you liking the King's btw? Did you get rear Kind shocks as well? I was all set to get an Icon Stg 5, but the more I read into peoples posts I felt like everyone would say they LOVED them.... but would then make sly comments how they were a little stiff or they wished they weren't so harsh. So I kind of figured that people are just forcing themselves to like them because they spent so much money on them. I'm doing Kings' front and rear, so hopefully it's all buttery smooth.

I've got a SS 1.2 lift with Land Cruiser rear springs. With the stock rear bumper and not much weight in the back I wound up with about 4" of lift in the rear, which is way too much compared to the 2" in the front. In addition I experience some bump steer on the highway due to the large angle of the rear track bar.

These 7.5 wrap Land Cruiser Springs (purple/purple/grey/white) supposedly give about the same amount of lift as the SuperFlex springs do. I should note that mine are at least 3 years old and have settled to their final height.

I just bought a set of the shorter 3" SuperFlex springs which I'm going to try out. I'll let you know how they work out.

I love my Kings. My fronts are King 2.5 Extended. These are not the external reservoir or anything. I thought about going Kings with the external reservoirs in the rear, but ultimately decided against it because I like the Sonoran Steel 1.2 lifts, but I wanted an adjustable coilover up front. I was looking at Toytec Boss CO's, but I got a pretty good deal at the time from Total Automotive Performance on the Kings, so that's what I went with. I decided to go with the SS 1.2 rear only lift over running Kings out back. I have seen a few people go through a lot of drama finding good mounting positions for the external reservoir that isn't in the way. The SS 1.2 lift is a solid tried and true option that is pretty straight forward. That, and replacement Tokico shocks are inexpensive.

Now... I just need to hammer on my pinch welds a bit to clear the larger tires. Tomorrow...

I like it quite a bit. I, for one, feel it is a good mix. I find the overall ride very nice so far. I recently added larger 285 tires. I feel like if anything, it is even more plush feeling.

My cargo box / sleeping platform weighs about 70lbs without any drawers, has a 35lb compressor, another 40lb of tools and recovery gear, plus my full-sized 33" spare underneath. So, overall I have about 175-200lb over stock.

My Superflex coils are still lifting it over 3" in the rear (I would say their estimates are accurate). I agree with tS_kStin that they would be too tall for your goals.

Probably the 890s will be your best bet, if I had to guess.

I have 890s. They have the lowest spring rate of all the OME springs, including the 906s. Maybe this would help (at least with the OME coils)

To give you a comparison, I just added OME 2906 rear coils to my '98 4Runner last month. I wanted minimum lift and maximum load carrying capability. The 906's increased my lift by 1.25 inches from 21.0 in to 22.25 in from center of wheel to fender. I don't have a picture, but the 4Runner on the left of Chuckles89 photo above could be mine empty. I haven't loaded it to the GVWR yet, but several hundred pounds in the back is barely noticeable. My stock load-carrying capacity was horrible. I can't imagine it bottoming out with a heavy load now; by my calculations, at GVWR the axle will just be touching the inner springs which the '98 has. I will load my 4Runner with 1300 lb this weekend and test it on railroad tracks and speed bumps to see how it handles them.
