Thinking of putting a toytech 3" lift on my 2000 sr5. Haven't heard or seen a lot of non-biased feedback, from either side. Everyone I've talked to about them who has them, loves them. Just trying to get as much info as I can before I jump. Anything positive or negative would be helpful, and if negative, who makes a better one and why. Thanks all!
i dont have a toytec lift and i think their stuff is total garbage, i mean they wont give me one for free so i can demo it, and show it off and give them free advertising so, i wont ever buy a lift from them, they dont want to give me free products, then they cant be worth spending any money on... at least thats my logic i have 4 different vehicles that i would of put toytec lifts on, but they wonldnt work with me or give me the products so i went to the lumber yard and got scrap wood blocks and lifted that way. works great and they gave it to me for free! PAR lumber for the win! give PAR a call and they will hook you up
I've had my ToyTec BOSS system on my 2000 Limited for about a month and I love it. I'm running the 650lb coils up front. They were a bit stiff to start, but have mellowed out quite a bit after four significant weekend off-road excursions. I went with the heavy springs because I have a plate-steel winch bumper and a set of heavy duty rock sliders currently being fab'd by Addicted Offroad. A couple of things to consider:
1. You will need 1.25" wheel spacers (front and rear) to correctly align the suspension geometry. Those will run you $160 to $200 for all four.
2. You're going to change the angle of your front drive axles a lot. Don't be surprised if your CV boots fail. Both of mine have! That passenger side went within the first 100 miles. My driver side failed last week. The boots didn't actually tear. They just burped out all of the grease.
3. While you're at it, replace all of your stock bushings with poly urethane bushings (front/rear sway bars and the steering rack). The extra work and cost is minimal, but the benefits are worth it. The steering rack is a bit of a PITA, but there's some good write ups on it here.
Going from bone-stock, completely worn out suspension to the ToyTec BOSS and all new urethane bushings was like getting a new vehicle. Acceleration and braking are improved, ride comfort is vastly improved (especially on the highway) and it looks damn good! If want a great lift for a DD that will take you to some new places, it's fantastic option.
My unbiased opinion...
You dont need any wheel spacers to align anything after the lift.

Are you 100% certain this is a must?

That being said I really like my Toytec coilovers. If you don't mind re-building the coilovers every once in a while, spend a couple hundred bucks more on the fronts and go King :thumb:
Got it. Hmmmm.... I wonder how funky mine will look without them
