Question: How can I be sure my 04 SR5 has a (working) TPMS system?
Reason for question:
I see the TPMS light on the dash when I start up. It goes right out along with the ABS, and other lights. I have never seen the light come on while driving so I reasoned 1. I have a TPMS system and 2 Everything was OK I.e. my tire pressure must be fine.
About 1500 miles ago I had new (to me) rims and snow tires put on. The tire guy came out to the waiting room and made me sign a form stating that I was aware the snows did not have sensors in the rims and I acknowledge that the TPMS system would not function. I took this to mean that at some point the system would notice that the stock rims were missing and light the TPMS light. This has not happened.
Yes I have searched extensively on this. No, my stock rims are not anywhere near the truck. I frequently drive over 100 miles at a time so it is not a lot of short trips.
Thoughts? I wonder if the snows really did have sensors as they were new to me, not new. The the tire guy that had me sign the form was not the actual installer. Could the installer have read the codes and registered them? I wasn't charged extra.
At this time, my thought was to air down the spare to 15 psi and drive a while to see if the light comes on. I would like to tap into the vast knowledge of members here first.
