What's wrong with the ones you have?Most tire shops can replace them and have the scanner there to reset them.
5th gen spares don't have one and the ECU can only read 4 of them anyways.
The stock ones are PMV-107J and you can get new ones on ebay for $25..............

You can find those TPMS rebuild kits cheaper as I just used a random search on ebay. I paid like $12 for a set of four but that was a couple of years ago.Discount Tire has them for $4 or $5 a piece I believe also.

Just did this very same thing yesterday. I found a set of 4 sensors on ebay for $48, my dealership charged me $25 for the rebuild kit and $30 to program them. No lights on the dash yet, so they appear to be working just fine, but I think I'll be getting a programming tool so I can make the switch myself next time I need to put the winters back on.

I did a recon mission to Costco and was quoted $45 ea for replacement TPMS sensors and rebuild kits at $2. Those are on top of the tire install price but did include programming. I did not place an order so those prices may vary from actual. Also I don't know if they use OEM or "clonable" equivalents.
I'm wary of buying used because of unknown battery condition (estimated life span seems to be 5-12 years, 7 year avg).
Having a Winter set of tires/wheels with cloned TPMS would hopefully remove the need to re-register each time the sets were changed.

TPMS 5-tire rotation
If the ECU can only read 4 sensors at a time, then whats the best way to reprogram with a 5-tire rotation? With the sensors in the tire, would you just have to document all the sensor IDs and remember which are which? Maybe label the IDs on the inside of the wheel?
Also, is there a way to read how much battery life is remaining? Ive had my OEM set for 5 years (60k miles) and am now replacing tires and buying a 5th sensor. Should I just replace the original OEM set now too or will they likely still last me until my next set of replacements?

Some eBay sellers only list up to '09 for the 107J's....while others list up to '11 with the same part number.

Toyota p/n for 107J is 42607-33021. I'd rather go new than ebay, they do use sealed batteries after all.
A little over $50 /ea from online dealers like this one:

Here's a TPMS story.
I checked with the tire shops in town and they only used ITM Uni-Sensor programmables and would clone the existing TPMS from my stock tires to my snow tires.
I had snow tires done at one of the shops, and they couldn't get it to work: it flashes to indicate a sensor problem. They contacted the local dealership for advice and they said they only use Toyota TPMS and wouldn't support any aftermarket TPMS or cloning. All 4 clones are transmitting, yet somehow the ECU still isn't happy. ITM hasn't responded to emails although their catalog shows the 2015 4runner as compatible.
So I bought LightDims and put one over the dash indicator; in hindsight I could have done that and saved $120, it works great. Light goes off when I'm parked next to the stored stock tires in the garage, comes back on when I'm driving.
Be wary of Ebay TPMS sales: many of the auctions are marked "used" and could have any amount of battery life left. 50% off retail and 10% remaining battery isn't a good deal.
I must have said at least 2 dozen times during the whole process: "It shouldn't be this complicated."

Does anybody know the torque spec for installing a TPMS sensor?

Kind of confusing but it's printed right on it as (Torque 4 +/- 0.6Nm)
3.4-4.6 Newton Meters converts to 30-40 in/lbs . Notice that's in/lbs and that translates to 2.5 -3.3 ft/lbs if you don't have a small enough torque wrench.
Over torquing is probably the number one killer of them.

I am in the process of replacing my '12LE 20" wheels and stock tires with a set of 5, 17" Procomp 7069 wheels and 265/70/17 BFG TA/KO2 tires (pretty excited that the stock finally wore down). I'm going with 5 because I'd like to have a full size spare. Because of this I was planning to rotate in the 5th tire at each rotation. The guy at the tire shop said that All Terrains were very important to rotate frequently (6kmiles).
Sullivan Tire is doing the job and they said they can swap out the TPS from the old tires. I came here to research whether the 5th tire has a TPS and found this thread. It sounds like the 5th gens do not have a TPS sensor and the system can only read 4 of them.

1. Am I understanding this correctly? Is there no TPS in the spare or is there a TPS but the system only registers 4?
2. Do you guys have any recommendations for TPS and tire rotation strategy for running 5 full size tires. The spare does not have a TPMS sensor in it and the system can only read 4 sensors. I put a sensor in my spare AT3 but probably won't rotate it. I do have a ATEQ reader though, and makes checking the pressure in the spare easy as it does not need to be lowered down.

Thanks dhylander. I also read in another thread you could rotate all 5 and there just wouldn't be a sensor in one of the tires in rotation. Seems like a good option too.

My 2016 had a TPMS in it. I just took it out yesterday to put it in the new wheel I got.
I replaced the 20" wheels that came with the limited with 17" TRD wheels and my spare was a 20" wheel with a TPMS in it.
I hope this helps
