well i've searched and haven't really found a for sure answer so I figured I would ask here.......

What is everyone's opinion on the adjustable trac bar SS sells? I will be running the OME 861's soon and it seems that some people say the trac bar is necessary and others say it causes more damage than anything.

Get a panhard bracket drop,

unless you want to screw up your geometry and have the panhard push/rotate your diff into your gas tank and into your wheel well etc.

The panhard bracket drop keeps stock geometry, its simple math. if you extend the panhard you are at a completely different angle and it causes all types of different axle movement.
 
Well according to SS the drop bracket "simply doesn't work" and the adjustable is the correct way to do it. Yet when they first tabbed the bracket that was also the correct way to do it. Kinda confusing.

Its pretty simple, do the geometry, the angle stays the same when you drop the panhard, when you extend it it doesnt,

several of the people on here have done the Panhard Extension from SS and had issues with rubbing and axle movement etc.

Ill tell you what, Send a Pm to Gerdo or Glen Yoshida, they are the top two people that I trust in the world about 4runners.. see what they say,
Im sure others will chime in here, but its pretty apparent that Geometrically, the 4runner panhard bracket was meant to be at a certain angle, the drop retains that angle, the extension does not.

nope, you have to weld them, sometimes doing things the right way is a bit more work/money,

I realized that for the first time after I put a coil spacer lift in my 4runner and realized I wasted my money.
 
I'm not doubting you at all.......I guess I don't understand why the comonay who makes the product says not to use it and instead use an adjustable bar when people have proven it doesn't work. It makes it confusing for people like myself who are new to the sport.

I also would like to know typical shop rates and if anyone knows a local shop to us? And where to get it since SS discontinued it
 
I have the SS adjustable with OME 890s and 10mm trim packers. Nothing is rubbing or out of geometry on my rig.
The total difference in length between the stock panhard bar and the SS one was only about 1/2 inch.
As far as I know , Steve at SS wouldnt sell a crappy product. He seems to be well regarded in the 4Runner community.

what he said. my gas tank skid is messed up now from continuous contact when flexed. get the drop bracket.
 
So where do I get one? They have them listed for 2nd gen, SS discontinued them for 3rd gens and says they don't work.
 
i think it be even worse ... could this be bolted up then drove for a little welll tell welded or is that a bad idea ... if we get done before 5pm there maybe a 50/50 chance we could take it up to my buddy's and weld it up

Ok I have the SS adjustable and when I stuff the drivers side it definitely pushes the axle into the gas tank. The main reason Steve says the drop bracket doesnt work on the 3rd gen is due to the forces applied to the trac bar. If you lengthen the bracket you are moving it further away from the frame and creating a longer lever arm. If you just use a bolt on one it will not work. Jmoney and Brian2sun made their own initially and welded it but first attempt did not work, again due to the amount of pressure or stress applied. the Toytec drop bracket properly welded and reinforced will work.

While I believe Steve is knowledgable about our trucks he also has his own beliefs and agenda. He flat out says aftermarket arms don't work and can never be aligned. Proven wrong on my truck and 100's of others. Do his suspension kits work, yes they do and very well.

You can run your lift without modding the panhard bar, I run the same parts used in the 1.2 kit and I didn't do anything to my panhard. I have the bracket drop but have yet to install it, there is a group buy on SS stuff so if that goes through I will probably get the adjustable and sell my toytec bracket.

On a side note...its hard to ask an open question like this w/o specifiying what type of coils and such are being used. Steve wouldn't sell the bar if it didn't work properly, but every vehicle/lift is different so it may work for some and not others

USE THE DROP BRACKET IF YOU HAVE IT! i bought my lift set-up from Steve and have the adjustable bar (awesome lift overall). it doesn't allow for the maximum articulation without contact with the gas tank skid. i will trade you for the drop bracket if you don't want it that bad.

my booger welds didnt help that situation. :) I could have welded it better, and it wouldnt have broke off. The one we made looked almost like the toytec one.

My best advice. rock the stock one
