Traction Board Mounting

I have the Frontrunner rack but I'm not really interested in spending the $150+ for their mounting system just to put them on the top of the rack. So I'm looking for ideas on how others did it.

You could do it on the cheap with ratchet straps. Not elegant however affordable. I got these recently to mount my boards to my spare tire. They work pretty well and are much cheaper than most alternatives

Thanks. I might actually have to consider something like this. I was hoping for something that would allow me to maybe lock them some how to avoid potential theft.

This is actually a decent price for the type of mount it is. Just wondering if you can mount it so that the traction boards run the length of the vehicle rather than the width.

Are the frontrunner cross beams movable? For my Prinsu rack I moved one of the cross bars and then mounted them in the t-slots with carriage bolts, washers, and wingnuts, as well as a security nut on one of the bolts. I think it was $35ish with almost all of that being the security nut.

Two rollercam 3’ straps for a total of about $15. Rollercam straps are great btw.

Added benefit is I don’t have metal prongs sticking in the air when I drive around day to day.

I only put them up when heading on a trip so not worried about theft but it would be easy enough to just use a gun lock or something if I was worried.

Ratchet straps, HD bungees, military grade uv resistant zip ties lol, soo many options. And then to lock you can just use a steel cable bike lock.

So I actually took the plunge on their $155 attachment. If you have Maxtrax or Tredpros, it's probably worth the money since it interfaces amazingly well and gives you what effectively works as a lifter plate holder with 4 really sturdy attachment points. I also like that's setup to integrate with the rack in either direction. My attitude is I spent almost $1K on my rack and $300 on my boards, what the hell is another $150 to have it integrate fantastically well.

For other boards, unless they have holes drilled in similar positions to either of those, I actually don't know if it would really give you much advantage.

...MaxTrax Locking Mounts....

...For Anyone Else interested....I just posted a set of 4 Mounting-Pins with padlocks on the local craigslist...here's the listing:

...They mount well and securely to many of the rack systems, or what I had them on was the LFD ruggedized cross rails...the nylon-locking-nuts fit nicely hidden up inside the inverted 'U' shape of the LFD rails...so it would be pretty damn hard to get them off....Hope that helps?.....Cheers!....:cheers:...:cowboy:

Made my own with stainless/painted hardware from the hardware store and threaded knobs like these. All in for less than $25.
