Trade 2004 for 2006 or 7? A deal I can't refuse.

I agree that the stealer wants to do this b/c it is very lucrative for them. That is s/t to really consider about whether it is "worth" it. We take the biggest hit on our vehicles in the first 3-4 years of ownership. If you want to be $-wise, it pays to hold onto a new one for 10 years. When you consider the by-pass you've installed, the 67K is nothing on your engine. Your suspension upgrades are far superior to what'll you'll get in an OEM.

Other than the LED taillights I'm not too impressed with all of the changes they did to the 4Runner.

I mean sure I'd like projector headlights, but it's not really worth it for me to have that God awful corner gap on my 2005. I'm not liking the round fenders, the non projector fog lamps and the tube roof racks on 06 Sport Editions.

I like the front look of my 2005 a hell of a lot more now that I've gotten rid of my SR5 chrome grill for a color matched one. It'll look even better when I get my 4800K HID kit along with a 3000K pair for the fogs. As long as you aim them lower you won't need to worry about blinding people.

Keep your 2004. It's not worth the hit you'd take on a trade. Just buy the LEd tails and then you'll get to keep the best of what you have with the best from the 06 models. And all it cost you was $300. Better that then losing $3000+.

I personally think your runner is awsome ! I guess if it were me I would keep it especially with all you have done to it you would never get it back out of it. If you don't mind starting over with mod's ( which is alway's kind of fun ) go for it.

Bottom line it's your choice and you only live once IMO. See what kind of a deal they give you and weigh it out.

Of course, they don't have a 2006 4Runner that has the same options as mine. So, this was mostly an exercise to see what they thought my 4Runner was worth to them. Maybe they will find a way to order a new one for me that will keep my payments the same, except adding two years to the term. I might go for that.

I would keep the remote oil filter and the Lightforce lights. The suspension would have to stay. Except the air bags maybe.

If Donahoe comes out with the rear springs and shocks soon, I might well make this trade.

Thats a pretty big hit to take to by new. I would hang on to what I already have then take $23,500.

Don't let one dealer tell you what it's worth and work based on that. They will give you a number that's too low, just to extract as much money from you as they can.

You need to know what your truck is worth before going to the dealer, and then just be patient until they either meet your price or you can walk out.

To find out what your truck is worth, go to Kelley Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com) and to Edmunds (http://www.edmunds.com) to use their used-car appraisers. KBB is usually low and Edmunds is usually high, so an average of the two appraisals is what a dealer should give you.

Also know what the new truck is worth. Visit either of those sites (both have the same info), and know what invoice price is. Just about all makes of cars are dealing just a few hundred dollars over invoice, and don't forget to also subtract any factory-to-dealer rebates from the price. For example, Toyota is running a $1000 rebate on 4Runners in the Midwest through 4/2/06. Might be happening in other regions, too.

I guess $23,500 is pretty good from a dealer (wholesale price) but what really matters is the difference you have to pay. That is the comparison you have to use when you go shopping from dealer to dealer. What will it cost me out of pocket to make this trade?

Personally, I wouldn't make this trade unless you wanted something different like a color, or a V8 instead of a V6. Otherwise, I'd wait for next year or perhaps the 5th generation to make a trade. Your present truck took its biggest depreciation loss over these last two years, from here on in it depreciates at a diminished rate.

I'd keep what you have; the differences in the new truck, other than the VVTI V8, are largely cosmetic.

Don't do the trade-in. Dealers will ALWAYS try to screw you one way or the other when you have a trade in.

If you really want the 06 truck, take the time and sell your 04 to a private party. Autotrader charges about $70 for a 12 week add with 9 pictures online and in print.

I've sold 2 cars that way and got about 3K over what the dealer offered each time.

Heck, by then I may not be hauling extra folks around. This would allow me to get the FJ.

My wife asked if there was another 4x4 I might rather trade into. I just don't think so as the 4Runner is the right size for me. The 4Runner also has an opening rear window. I really enjoy driving slow roads and mountain roads with the roof and rear window open.

Others ask if I would rather get something bigger. Bigger? No way would I get anything bigger. The 4Runner has 4 comfortable seats and hauls my motorcycles just fine.

I don't think we'll see new generation in 2008. Toyota usually keeps generation for 5-6 yr. They just updated 4th Gen in 2006. Same was with 2nd and 3rd Gen. So ~3-4yr for updated version will give us 2009-2010.
By the way, keep you 4Runner and trade it for 5th Gen.

The 2nd gen lasted 6 years (1990-1995). The 3rd gen lasted 7 years (1996-2002).
The 4th gen will probably last 5-6 years, so I expect the 5th gen starting as a 2008 or 2009 model.

It's funny how different we all think and how are taste's are , all of the above are the exact reason I bought an 06 over an 04/05.....lol . Mainly the squared off wheel well's I really hated , but liked the front grill better on the 04/50's. Love the tube step and the tube roof rail's .
