Trade Sport parts?

Hi all, Ive been lurking here for a year or so and Im getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 4Runner. I was originally set on an SR5 with a V8 and sunroof, but now Im considering a Sport instead. For only $1k more, Id really like to get the heated mirrors, telescoping steering wheel, larger brakes and color-keyed trim. The only drawback is that I do NOT want the hood scoop, roof rack or rear spoiler.

Im just curious if there would be anyone interested in trading a hood, rear hatch or roof rack from an SR5 or Limited. Im hoping to end up with a Shadow Mica, although Ill consider Titanium. I wont be purchasing for another 2 months, just curious if I should go this route or stick with the SR5.

I know the hood would be desireable... I was more concerned about the hatch since I really dislike the spoiler. The tubular roof rack isnt that bad but I think Id prefer the cleaner look of the SR5/Limited/pre-2006 Sport rack. It appears that both styles use the same mounting holes (can anyone confirm?).

I suppose I could also ask the dealer to switch the hood or hatch with another 4Runner on the lot before I take delivery.

Why not order one exactly how you want it instead of parting out a brand new truck?

Because the only thing he could get rid of by ordering is the spoiler. The scoop and tubular roof rack will remain. The only other option is to get a Limited with X-REAS, then you get leather which can't be deleted, different wheels, no smoke chrome headlights and grille. Each trim has enough details that make it unique. Mix and matching each exclusive detail to the particular trim is not possible through special ordering. Only options which isn't normally offered in a given region's configuration can be special ordered, not standard equipment.

If you take off the rear spoiler you will have holes and you will have to do something with the third brake light.

Thats why Id need to swap out the entire hatch.

Id order exactly what I want, but Im going to try and capitalize on year end rebates. Im sure I could outfit a Limited to pretty close to how I want it, but thats just not in my budget.

It seems that it would be easier to get a Sport and take off the parts I dont want, rather than trying to add parts to an SR5. The brakes, trim and telescoping wheel would be a major hassle (not to mention expensive) to add after the fact.

Even if you don't like the look of the spoiler it really does serve a purpose... I didn't want one when I bought mine either, but now I am really glad that I have it. Do a search and you will find all kinds of threads for and against it.

Im aware that it keeps the rear glass cleaner, but I just cant get past the look- especially the '05+ with the hump.

I think most spoilers do just that- spoil the look of the car. The 4Runner just looks so much cleaner without it.

I felt the same way about the spoiler but after a short time I've grown too really like the look of it and I now feel the complete opposite; I think it looks naked/odd without it!

Maybe I need to look closer but the spoiler is mounted to the roof, not the hatch. As such you would have holes in your roof and without the 3rd breaklight your truck wouldn't be street legal.

Not on the 4th gen, it's on the hatch door. The 2nd gen was roof mounted. If he finds 4R without the spoiler, he'll already have the third light installed on the hatch door. I also doubt without a third brake light would make a vehicle not street legal, many pre-1990 vehicles don't have a third light, unless it's one of those laws that are grandfathered in for old vehicles. Also, I haven't heard of anyone getting cited for a burnt third light.

I love my SE hood and rack and tube steps I hink they really make it look nice. Although I took my steps off , and I'll give you the rear spoioler thing , its there so I leave it , otherwise prefer not to have it.

I've seen several 2006 sports around here without the spoiler. On my 2005 sport I added the spoiler aftermarket mostly because I didn't like the hump style on the 2005's.

I think its a regional thing- Im not even sure if you can get a Sport without a spoiler in the northeast. Id even consider buying out of my region to get one without a spoiler.

Just have them redirect one from the west coast, I've seen them up and down California.
