Traded my '14 SR5 Premium for a '15 TE

I saw my dealer got a '15 TE in 3 days ago and did the trade yesterday. I couldn't be happier! My SR5 was nautical blue and the TE is silver. A question I have is how do I know if my TE has KDSS? The salesman said all TE's have it but the way he answered made me think he wasn't sure. I doesn't mention kdss anywhere on the window sticker. Also, does the TE sit higher than a regular SR5? Just driving it, it seems higher. Anyway I'm pretty stoked about the TE! I love the hood scoop and the wheels look awesome! I will definitely post pics this weekend. :clap2:

Actually it's an option. You would see the KDSS listed as a $1,750 extra.

Seriously? You really just hopped into a 15 TE and did not even pay attention to the options it had when you bought it?

I hope not sounding harsh, and congrats on the truck, I am really just curious on how an option like that, it is not quite floor mats, would not be noticed.

Likely better off without Will be an expensive thing to maintain, and i believe makes the rig near impossible to lift.

Most sales people don't know much about what they stock let alone what they don't stock. If I remember right, our dealer thought KDSS came standard as well until I told them otherwise. Our dealer NEVER gets a Trail (so they knew very little)... new car guy won't stock them. So I guess that means mine will sell unbelievably fast later or I'll never be able to sell it because no one around here will want a Trail! I have never seen a Trail on the road in my neck of the woods, ever.

From my understanding, kdss is where the shocks are connected diagonally via piping. Replacing the shocks for lifting is not easily possible. Am i wrong?

Far from impossible but a bit harder and can lead to more complications then without it!lol

The verdict is still out on long term maintenance on 5th Gens but there are alot of moving parts and sensors.However, KDSS is not new to Toyota as Lexus's have had it for over 10 years.Most of the problems are reattaching the front sway bar back up as it takes some force(I used 2 floor jacks and punches to line the holes back up) and you can't open any of the hydraulic valves like the repair manual tells you to.

Yes, you are incorrect... you are thinking of the XREAS that comes on Limited's... the KDSS on Trails simply hydraulically disconnects sway bars as needed, allowing for better on and off road manners.

What you are describing is the XREAS system on the Limited models only.

There is no maintenance to KDSS. There is no turning it off or on, engaging or disengaging or anything else. I just got rid of my TE that had it.
Now, to "learn" you something. Lifting a KDSS equipped vehicle is no more or less involved that anything else. It has another step in the process is all.
