Traded my 4Runner.

I traded my 4Runner for a 2016 Tacoma, the 4Runner was hard to let go, but I needed a truck bed. My 4Runner was one of the best vehicles that I have ever owned and I hope my Tacoma can come close. My trade-in value really surprised me, a five year old base SR5 that has seen some use (97,000 miles) and I was able to get 18.5K for it. I have already started the mods on the new Tacoma...

Looks awesome! I had a 2014 Tacoma and ended up selling it because I didn't need the bed. My T4R should be here next week. I test drove the new Tacoma and really liked what they did with this new one!

I have owned 2 Tacomas, and the one reason that I really miss it is to get a manual transmission.
Never a maintenance issue on each.

My question is how is the pickup and acceleration with this new engine? As compared to the 4.0 in the 4R?

I knew going into purchasing my 2015 4R that acceleration was not the main motivation, long term reliability was the driver, but this truck is really slow. My 1996 T100 with a 2.7 4 cylinder will run dog circles around the 4R, I know the truck is lighter, but the 4Runner has about 150 HP advantage.

My son has my 2002 Tacoma with 200K in the ODO, still runs like a top, that 3.4L is fantastic.

Lastly. The new Tacoma looks great, I really like what they did to it. Sky Silver is my favorite color...if only the 4Runner came in that color

I thought my 4Runner had adequate power for what it is. The Tacoma feels slightly quicker, but the real test will come when I tow my camper.

I went and looked at a '16 taco on Friday. Not going to trade. Not even an option for power seats in a $40k limited? Kinda surprised by that. The LTD tacoma is easily a step or two below a premium 4runner in terms of interior. It should not be called a Limited. It's not as nice as a $19k Corolla LE. Toyota needs to step up its game here.

I don't need a luxury truck, and I'd probably buy a TRD Pro, but I'd still end up having to swap front seats to fit a tall person. I've done this with the 4 other pickups and tacomas I had. I hoped the '16 would at least have a height adjustment.

Other thoughts - rear axle now has bolt in wheel bearings (I think). It uses a spacer on the outside of the axle tube. I'm not sure if that houses a bearing - if so good upgrade. Why no discs?

And the OEM tires are much better than the 4runners. Goodyear ATs.

I also like the hand brake in the center. Way more fun to handbrake turn!

Finally I like the oem wireless charging pad. (you iphone folks will get wireless charging eventually i think - it's awesome)

I own a 2011 4R and drove a 2016 Tacoma

Dealer let me take a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport LB 4X4 for a nice long ride.
For over $36K I thought my 2011 4R was quicker, rode better and a better value.
4R has dual power leather heated seats that are more comfy.
I would need to step up to a Tundra LTD to be satisfied.
Truck was nice though, Toyota did a great job with redesign.
But for me it would be a down grade.

I sat in a new Tacoma but never drove one. My biggest complaint is that the seat is to low. Your legs are stretched out in front of you. I like a higher seat, more like setting in a chair.

That's the way the old hilux were.

This is why I went with the Nissan Frontier over the previous Tacoma. Disappointing to hear it hasn't changed. The 4runner has a much better sitting position.

Yeah, sometimes there ain't no replacement for a truck bed.

I've owned pickups and man, when you need to haul something there just isn't a replacement for something that can haul sheets of drywall.

But its so rare that I actually haul anything large (and I have a brother and sons that all have pickups).
