Traded my blinkers for a sound system...

So this weekend I installed a new head unit, all new door speakers, an amp, and a sub box.

The trade-off is that my blinkers / hazards no longer work, nor does the clock.

I know it "should" be the 10amp fuse left-mid in the interior fuse box.

But it's not. That fuse is fine.

That said, there is some crazy stuff going on in said fuse box. On that particular (ACC) fuse, there is a fuse hijack/blade with a green & black wire ... going... somewhere. Well, there was.

Now it's not, because during the stereo install the guy that was helping me and I discovered that, as far as we could tell, the stereo was being powered by whatever circuit the ABS is on. Yes, it was drawing off the ABS controller that's there in the console.

Sooo..... what do folks recommend? I am currently running the stereo directly from the battery (and of course, the amp as well) -- but what do folks recommend I do for the blinkers? I'm not a jackass so I use my blinkers for every lane change, turn, etc... and I feel like a complete bastard driving around without them (and/or using hand signals, which of course almost nobody understands...)

Your turn signals will not work if the plug for the hazard lights is not fully plugged in. I know that one from experience. Double check that you plugged the clock back into the right connector. It is vertical and just below the hazard connector. There is another plug of the same size that appears to have no function. I got that one wrong the first time around too. Pop your bezel off and double check the connections. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes

Thanks, I will check that out. Could be a loose connection up there, etc. I'm still really frazzled by the total hackery in my fusebox. There are two CONNECTED wires riding circuits that aren't theirs, and at least two others that used to and aren't currently connected to anything.

I'm guessing the previous stereo was also after market and the PO ripped out the factory harness? Power should come from that harness fused off ignition for the deck and a constant 12V for deck memory.

This 4R had an insane setup. A low-level Sony aftermarket 1DIN deck.. sitting on top of.......... the stock deck.

Yeah.

We tried to get it to run off of what was SUPPOSED to be ignition, but no luck. Which is why we ended up running a straight up static line off the battery. I've got a lot of experience running straight off the battery from my previous car (88 VW Cabriolet I owned for 6+ years) that also had it wired that way (which I did *not* do) -- so I'm very very unlikely to let it drain the battery.

The really weird thing (and probably just me being tired and groggy) is that the Sony deck DID work off the ignition switch.

Uberjeff, thanks for the hookup, I got it!

I went and took the fascia off and felt around back of the clock. Lo and behold there was nothing plugged into it, but there didn't seem to be any spare wire harnesses, so I did some digging and found it. The clock wire was hooked into the hazard harness receptacle (it does fit, bizarre) and the proper hazard harness was tucked away neatly.

Plugged in everything where it's supposed to be, and......

Blinks are BACK!

This forum rules, thanks guys.

I did a similar mess-up on a late 90's Subie where I plugged the heater
into the hazards so when you turned the hazards on, the heater would
"flash" on and off! 2 near-identical plugs close to each other...

SAME thing happened to me last 2 weeks ago after finishing my stereo install.
