Trail Gear newly introduced Tacoma bumper

The Tacoma frame ends are a good 3" shorter, ending right at the front body mounts. The factory bumper on the Taco has brackets that slide into the frame end and incorporate the cross piece that the factory skid bolts to. So in order to mount it to the 4 Runner(or 98 Taco) you would have to cut your frame rails back and a few other modifications. Yes for some reason Toyota left the long frame ends on the 98 Taco similar to the 4Runner.

Not true in all cases. Some 4runners have only 2" in front of the skid plate crossmember that sits in front of the A/C condenser. Its the mounting pattern that is different on the 4runner compared to the Tacoma. In fact, I am pretty sure I have done my front bumper on every year, and all of the 4runners are the same.

I knew the 98 Taco had the longer frame since that is what I had before my Runner. Whenever I called to find out about an aftermarket bumper they told me I would have to modify compared to other year Tacos. Since I am not a fabricator or vendor I was speaking from my knowledge of the vehicles I had owned or friends I had worked on. The main point is that you would need to modify it in order to make it work which may or may not be easy.
