Trail hood scoop.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but it appears that to do a complete hood swap one would require the following new parts:
5330135230 "Hood w/ Scoop"
7618135902 "Scoop"
7618235080 "Scoop Guide"
7618335030 "Scoop Protector #1"
7618335040 "Scoop Protector #2"
7618535030 "Scoop Protector #3"
and a qty of (4) of 9008017189 "Scoop Nut"
and the other components could be salvaged from the old hood.
It would seem that the "Scoop Retainers" (#1 & #2) and the "Scoop Gasket" are included in the "Scoop" item purchase.

i have glare. only in early morning and evening when the sun is just right. visor blocks it from the top but there aint shit that blocks the bottom. going to probably put a black vinyl wrap on it like my brother's trail teams fj

I have had this thought, and it would not entail a full replacement. boyfester, it looks like your Trail is Super White? Same as mine which I prefer to call OMG White. I have seriously considered possibly doing a Plasti-dip application on just the scoop bulge itself, if not the entire hood. This should reduce the glare while being basically stealthy to the naked eye.

I read this post when it first came out and thought everyone that was saying that it blinded them was being a bit dramatic...Since then I have noticed it just about every day. I think it is worse in the winter due to the angle of the sun, but it certainly does happen on occasion. Seems to be where you heading at the sun, when the sun is 20-30 degrees above the horizon.

Why has no-one mounted some LED driving lights in the hood scoop yet? Seems like it's just waiting for them.

Had my TEP for a couple weeks now, have seen the glare a couple of times. But its worth dealing with for the awesome looking hood

Someone posted above (Jeremy?) a vinyl wrap might be the answer.
I was looking into to it.
Are the below things right?
Vinyl will last about three years, and its a two man job to cover the hood?
I want to cover the whole hood, not just the area of the scoop, so its got something to wrap around?

IIRC, it will last a lot longer than that, but will become harder to remove the longer it is on. I did it by myself. Used 3M dinoc matte black, heat gun, and a vinyl application squeegee with a felt edge.

Couldn't be sure from the "glare". Lol. It was worth suggesting. I'm still thinking about it. If it doesn't work it will peel back off and I'll only be minus $5. There is a silver matte Plastidip available too. :biggrin2:
