Trail premium, too much?

I got this from a dealer here in Texas. Thoughts?

Maybe I'm being picky because I've missed out on some good deals. Autonation in Austin had offered me $38300 otd on a new trail premium and Sewell in Dallas offered me $34900 on a 2015 trail premium with 4k miles. The first one I missed because I had to get on a flight that same day and the used one in Dallas I missed because he wouldn't budge a few more hundred dollars because I had to drive to get it. Bummer :(

I've actually had some very bad luck lately with local dealers while actively looking for one for the past 5 weeks.

I just got off the phone with the salesman and asked that I didn't want the $1100 in accessories. He explained they were the floor mats, door guards, tint, handle guards, interior protectant, nitrogen tired, and lastly (get this) options such as power windows??? I told him that he needs to find me a 4runnner with crank windows then. Salesman must have been new... Anyways, he said he won't give me a price without those dealer accessories and that the buyer must buy them irregardless. I politely told him no thanks on the car.

I would say no - not a good deal. I paid $37,800 OTD - no dealer fee, plus tax and title for a '15 trail premium with KDSS. Knock 1750 off of that and it's what you should be paying if you're getting a "good deal". So that should be about $36,000 plus TTL. That's about dealer cost plus around $750ish. Your dealer is asking for more like $2500 margin.

Oh, and mine came with power windows and floor mats too.

Not entirely apple to apples, but I got my new '15 Trail Premium with KDSS up here in Canada for ~$41000 USD out the door. That price included: 5% GST (tax), dealer paperwork fees, 4x BFG KO2s (they also gave me my stock ones back.. i.e. not traded in), and 3M entire front end protection (bumper, half front fenders, mirrors).

I am looking to buy the exact vehicle, a TP, which is a loaded vehicle from the factory and has not only power windows as standard, but all auto up and down windows. Every truck I see around here has stuff on it that is called dealer installed, stuff I don't want. I don't want tinted windows, a $500 wax job, or the $300 trash floor mats, will install Weathertech.

So I have been to.d I will have to order, the cut off order date for 2015 was in May, so I will start looking and see what they find. The best deal I have found for a base Premium without the stuff listed, as it comes off the boat is $36500 plus TTL.

I am buying in a month and will follow this thread.

Thanks, Richard

To add, go to KBB.com and look at the FMV, what vehicles are selling for in your area

Meh. It's a stripper and at that price I'd pass.

Personally I think if people don't want KDSS they should buy an SR5. My .02

You know I went through this after I purchased mine trying to figure out if I should have gone with a SR5 Premium. But it was easier for me to get something all complete w/KDSS (fallen in love out cornering pickups who try to keep up).

But what you should weight in on is:
1) What are you going to do with this vehicle(do you need the locker/crawl control/kdss/4x4 w/relay versus Manual 4wheel drive)?
2) Can you afford aftermarket mods versus wrapping it up into the costs(Locker?)?

Picked up my TEP w/out KDSS here in Denver, CO 2wks ago (clearly different location) for $36,800 plus TTL. This was also a custom order because they aren't "allocated" TEP w/out KDSS in this region. Waited 8wks from $500 down to sign and drive. Other dealers told me it was an "MSRP car" because it had to be ordered. My strategy was work em low as I could on the dealer I didn't really want and then went to the dealer I wanted and asked him to beat it. Probably not the BEST deal, but I was happy with it.

I think that is a fine deal for the Denver market. As we know, the TE's are a sellers market here so the "smoking giveaway deals" are fallacy. Don't happen.

My TE is loaded to the gills including KDSS and I felt good walking out for $39K before TTL. I could have walked out with a loaded Limited for the same price (they are much more willing to deal on them and the SR5 here as you know) but I had specific requirements and to be honest $2-3K is not that big of a deal to me.

I was making another deal two days ago with cowboy Toyota in Dallas. Salesman offered me a trail premium with kdss for $38200 before taxes and he was going to deliver to me. He assured me it had kdss so I went through the process of sending him info for my trade in. After spending two days going back and forth to get things in writing and a deposit put on it. He calls me last minute and told me it did not have kdss and tried to sell it to me anyways for the same price. At first he said the crawl mode was kdss. Not sure if he had no idea or was just trying to bullshit me. He kept insisting that kdss was not a big deal. Blah!

This past Monday, round rock Toyota had been contacting me all week saying that they are getting a white trd pro after it was being shown at the xgames. Sales girl calls me all week to make sure I'm interested and reassures it's white. On Tuesday, she calls says it's coming in later. I take time off, clean my trade in, and get my finances ready and drive there. When I get there, they pull up an orange trd pro which pissed me off because it completely wasted my time and had to drive home with nothing. They tried still tried to sell it to me saying that orange was the only color option for the trd pro. What pissed me off the most is that the sales girl that told me it was white and to come in never showed her face when they pulled up the orange trd pro. She wouldn't explain herself or apologize for wasting my time. I was pretty much willing to pay msrp on a white one and trade in my car that day. :(

The process of buying cars suck lol

Try going through an auto broker. Finding the car you want is their job, and they do it well, not to mention they can get way better deals than the average person. There is no way you should be paying MSRP for anything except possibly a TRD, and that's only because of a lacking inventory. Having a pro on your side is always a good thing and you won't be dealing with any BS. They find the car you want at a good price. Often they will deliver it directly to your house and you sign the papers in your own home. IMHO something to seriously consider.
