Trail wheels "better" than TRD Pro wheels?

I'd venture to say that most of the time it's for looks. Black wheels yay!

I had the trail wheels and i upgraded to the TRD wheels and there is no difference in performance. I black prefer the look over the silver on my white car.
Also, the wheels seem to stick out slightly more than the trail wheels giving it a better stance in the wheel well - or that's completely untrue and it just appears that way to me.... I don't know.

For the two rigs having the same size tires it are shows the bridgestone's don't measure up on width. It's pretty much my least favourite part of my trail edition, soon to be fixed with a set of proper ko2's or duratrac's. The trail wheels look nicer once a proper set of tires are mounted on them.
The trd pro wheels have a different offset and therefor they do stick out a bit more, this is true for all trd pro models, gains width for more stability to accompany the added height as well. I believe the Tacoma trd pro gains 1/2" at each corner for 1" overall wider track.

I'm currently on the stockish appearance, sleeper look kind of thing with tasteful mods. I like my Trail wheels the more I look at them, and are a "big part of the formula" as a friend put it for not having rubbing issues.
Coming out of Tacoma ownership for 8 years, the trends where everything was debadge, plastic dip, black wheels, and satoshi this and that- I got pretty burned out on that look. I'm sticking with my Trail wheels for a while.

The trail wheel has a little recessed slot to protect the tire valve. Small detail, but worth noting in the direct comparison.

SR5 wheels do the job - all scraped up from rocks - fit the E rated LT265s just fine - easy to clean because they don't have a bunch of non-functional extra ribbing -

I really like the look of the trail wheels, and they work just fine, so I don't really see a reason swap them out.

Yep. Half an inch wider with a valve stem protector. Functionally they are "better" than the TRD wheels, but they're not black and don't say "TRD" so there you have it.

If you intend to hit trails etc go with whatever wheel is cheaper since they all get trashed the same anyways

The machined areas of my Trail Edition wheels are plenty scratched but you have to get close to notice it. I'm sure if they were the black TRD wheels they would look horrible.

this is my favorite feature, i have a nice gouge from a rock right across this but the valve stem was untouched
i really want to powdercoat the trail wheels but i know it would get all nicked and scratched the first time i went offroad

Trail Wheels, Duratrac tires
We have the stock Trail wheels on our 4R but the dealer had fitted Goodyear Duratracs on it as a demonstrator. He offered to trade back to the oem tires, but we said "No-o-o-o thankyu". After seeing that comparison, I'm sure happy with what we have, both wheels and tires. - Ted

I feel the exact same, not that you asked. I've owned a 95 1/2, 2009 and a 2015 Tacoma. I just switched over the the 2016 4-Runner. I really like the looks of the stock Trail rims! I'm definitely NOT paying $800 for zero performance upgrade.
