Trailer Brake Controller Recommendations?

This is considered the gold standard by many. I'm not saying that's the best source it's just the one I found first.

Tekonsha prodigy X2. I installed it on mine for towing my pop-up and now my hybrid. Easy plug and play setup. Being the proportional and inertial, once it is adjusted to the way you like, you'll never have to touch it again.

I tow a 19ft boat and definitely feel the brakes when I have it attached. I have hydraulic brakes on the trailer and a 4 pin connector. Since I upgraded from my 98, i need to extend the ground wire on the trailer so I can reach the connectors on the truck. first off, any recommendations for this? splice in and extend, cover with electrical tape?
secondly, would a brake controller apply for me? i did some reading and it sounds like it works for electronic brakes but I am pretty sure mine are hydraulic. Anything to make the towing better, I don't want to warp my rotors!

-In your case the brake controller doesn't apply...
-Your trailer brakes (probably) work by compressing the surge brake's master cylinder; it's that thing right behind the trailer ball with the hydraulic line coming out of it. I would suggest getting the trailer brakes adjusted and bled if it's been a while. Most trailer brakes don't self-adjust (unless they are disc brakes).
-Northern Tool and Napa both sell extenders cheap for the wire. It comes with a male and female flat-4 wire connector. They usually come in 12", 24" and 36" Look at Harbour Freight too. That in conjuction with a small, thin bungee is quick, easy, clean and effective.

I use a Hensley brake controller http://www.hensleymfg.com/trucontrol/ when I tow our 23' 5k lbs Airstream trailer. It's kind of expensive, but it works very well. I bought it last year when I was towing a large popup (fleetwood Avalon) and it works really well when I tow the AS. :thumb3:
I have several friends who use the Prodigy brake controller and like it a lot.

CJ3Flyr, thanks for the info! Never notice the response until now. With the boat season approaching, I did a search and found this. I will definitely have them adjust the breaks and I'll order an extension. I figured it was pretty standard but the marine store I went to didnt have one last summer.
