Trailer Brake Controller

Does the new 2024 4-Runners come with a trailer brake controller built into the factory system. I haven't been able to find anything on the factory options isting on this. Is it included in the Premium package, or does it come with some other factory option. My Ram as a Trailer Tow Option and it does it all for you through the computer, takes the fun out of having to do anything, just flip the Trailer Tow switch. Biggest thing I like about it is, it does change the transmission shifting points to road conditions, works great.

I don't believe they come equipped with a trailer brake controller. Redarc makes a kit specific for the 4runner that works very well.

While the 4Runner does not have the actual trailer brake controller, it does come pre-wired for one. You plug the controller in under dash and you’ll have the brake circuit live in your trailer plug in under the rear bumper.

Redarc makes a couple kits that are plug & play, into a connector at the drivers under dash area. They also make a Toyota specific switch blank, which will allow you to use the supplied switch in one of your dash blanks to the left of steering column.

I’m using the “tow pro elite” version and it was a simple install using the aforementioned pieces.

Thanks for the info, I did get my new 4 Runner and it did come with a pigtail to plug in under the dash, this was what came with my Ridgeline as it was like the 4 Runner, No Brake Controller. Your Redarc system looks like it would work for me, I will check into it, thanks.

Hopkins Insight brake controller

I chose the Insight brake controller 3 piece modular unit. The manual override switch is in front of my right knee and the percentage brake force shows on the little square guage lower right on instrument panel. I fabricated a custom bracket for the override switch that is bolted to a factory switch blank just left of heat/AC fan control knob. I figure applying trailer brakes independently of 4runner brakes is likely a critical moment and I wanted instant access to the switch without taking my eyes off the road.
Normal braking the Insight brain senses the trailer brake need automatically.

CURT 51180 Echo Mobile Bluetooth Brake Controller

I just picked up the Bluetooth controller from CURT and its a pretty nice option. IF you are looking for a permanent onboard solution this won't help but I find it to be easy to use and I can swap it out between vehicles. Plug-and-play and no drilling needed!

I think you’re not paying attention or may be confused…. I provided you an answer in detail, with info that should be helpful.

I wasn’t calling you a scammer, I was referring to the post I quoted. That guy was trying to get you to click on a link for scam stuff. He posted same in several threads. A moderator obviously went through and deleted all the scammers posts.

I just installed the REDARC Tow Pro Elite on my Limited 4Runner (2023) and it hasn't gone into calibration mode yet. Despite what the user manual says, I have a feeling that a trailer needs to be connected for it to get calibrated. It doesn't even look like it has power unless i press down the button. Was this the case for you as well???
