trailer hitch and ball

not really a 4rnr question but I am a n00b about a lot of this stuff so I thought I'd ask.

I am shopping for a hitch and ball for my trailer hitch. I'm a budget guy, I try to get the most out of what little money I have.

Any reason why I shouldn't buy one from Harbor Freight?

Is there a ball size that is more useful than any other size? Or should I go with the multi ball?

my 4rnr has a 1.5 inch lift with 31 inch tires. Do I need a step down hitch? like this

and there is a little rust, not much, inside the trailer hitch. Is there a trick to getting the mount to go in? grease? hammer?

I would venture a guess that 90% of trailers now a days that are towable with 4runners are 2" ball hitches. The main exception would be travel trailers which are usually a 2 1/2" ball.

A standard step hitch with a 2" ball should take care of you in most scenarios.

do you think there is anything wrong with getting a cheap chinese one from harbor freight?

When you say "cheap", don't ever go too cheap. I mean it's kind of important it doesn't break soooo it's up to you. I got a decent 10" (should have gotten a 12" haha) drop not to long ago for 32$, works fine and I pull my lawnmower and trailer every day. About 99% of hitch receivers should be fine to use.

Its really up to you if you want to cheap out. We dont know what your planning on towing.

Harbor frieght one has really good reviews so im sure it will be good.

both my boats use a 1 7/8 ball so i have a 2inch and a 1 7/8th to slip into my receiver.
