repost from over at toyota120:
so i recently bought a pop up camper for trips upstate in the fall and beachin it in the winter. the factory plug worked perfect w/ my trailer brake controller. jump back a little i got rear ended (thank god for the step hitch) and the person who rear ended me only mangled my step hitch and the factory 7 way plug for a trailer. skip ahead i bought this hopkins kit to replace the 7 pin. toyota wanted 350 bucks for the replacement one. so figure a 5 min install turned into 4 hours and no luck. one of the plugs was wrong and i had to splice the factory connector onto the hopkins kit. so after much frustration. my electric brakes are locked, the reverse lights stay on, and the trailer lights are really dim. my fuses and relays are ok under the hood. connections are secure and im lost. has anyone else had this issue or a similar problem with positive results or am i forced to dump the money for a toyota one?
