Training mode on voice recognition

My voice recognition has never worked good at all. This being my 1st vehicle with factory navigation I had a learning curve to figure out all the features. The navigation manual is about as thick as the regular owners manual and I loose interest in all this high tech stuff real quick. With me being an old geezer and not a techy I was about ready to say the hell with this voice crap. Then I read an old post on this forum about doing the training mode setup. Without this forum I would never have known that I could do this as I missed it skimming the owners manual. I had to read about 10 sentences etc back to the unit to recognize my voice. This is probably old news to people more familiar with this stuff but after completing the steps it works pretty darn good in the little bit I have since tried it. If any other old geezers has not set this up it is worth doing it.

I have a very heavy English accent despite being in Canada for over 15 years, the voice recognition just doesn't get it! I find it next to useless unfortunately... Any other ex-pats have the same issue?

Have you went through the voice recognition training mode procedure I mentioned?

Does a 2010 limited with Factory Nav have the training setup too? I used it all the time in my acura and would love to in the 4runner as well.

I must be missing something. I've been through the voice control "learning" software 3x now and still no luck with voice commands. None. Nada. Zip.

Anyone got any other thoughts on how I can make this work? I find this totally frustrating.

Thanks.

It sounds dumb but you have the correct region in as well? When I went to the east coast last fall I changed my region, forgot to change it back and got some very interesting results upon return until I realized it! Honestly I get best results by manually entering addresses and still use my phone sometimes.

You old guys suck...

I would keep at it....I wasn't too keen with it in the beginning, but it's coming around. I would also search Youtube for some helpful hints....you'll get it.

Eventually...

Screaming and profanity does not help, I can tell you that.

I must say that I was skeptical that going through the training mode a few weeks back would make the least bit of difference but it certainly did.

Previously, when I'd make a request of some sort it offered something completely unrelated to my query in reply.

Now, it seems to get the request correctly on the first try.

Certainly worth doing imho. :iagree:

I hate the Entune system. I usually end up using my phone because it actually understands "Take me to the nearest...." or "Take me to 123 Any Street Any Zip Code".

Maybe I need to buy Entune flowers or something...

Yeah... The owners manual met its doom the first year we had the car. Any chance you can post a pic of the page?

I tried my training mode several times. Even after 3 years the truck still doesn't understand me unless I'm doing less than 20mph, which is worthless. :frusty:
Yet somehow Google can understand me perfectly while I'm doing 80mph with the music playing using the mic in my cell phone.
