I switched from a '98 ml320 to a '12 limited, and I also noticed the wander. It's worst at highway speed, and I've read that it's due to the skinny tires and narrow stance.

Nah. My SR5 wandered like that - annoying as hell. I put on good tires and Bilsteins, but I think what actually fixed it was a good alignment, and mostly, getting the caster set to +4 deg.

I thought I'd mention that there may be merit to the narrow stance observation. I have a rock, decent size granite stone and the ML goes over it without any slipping or digging into the gravel while the 2runner always digs into gravel in some spots.

May be the ML has those characteristics because it more of a car than a truck, I would add mine has a real frame.
