Tranny leaks from the top of the transmission as far as I can tell. Nothing coming from the back of the motor either. I have wiped everything dry and monitored the leak. I cannot tell where it is coming from because there isnt enough room to see. The fluid is red/orange in color. Looks like ATF. Dont the older manual trans take ATF? Any help is appreciated.

no it should be gl5 80/90.
i put atf in the top of my shifter to lubricate and clean the shifting mechanism but if you put to much in and the seal is bad it will spit it out.
in my manual vehicles i do a 80/20 mix 80% GL5 20% atf makes it shift smooth and cleans out the tranny.
sense your transmission is not a pressurized system just remove the shift panel on top and clean the mating surface then put some black RTV on it and screw it back on wait 24hours and it should fix the leak if it starts leaking again you may have a crack in the casing.
simple fix 30min to 60min just take off the center counsel and unbolt the shifter plate and re bolt when new sealant is on.

a hand pump with a hose attached to a 5 gal bucket of gl5.
you can get a 1/2 quart hand operated one but man those things never worked for me

If your going to drain and fill the trans at the same time you remove and reseal the shifter housing, just pour it in the hole where the shifter housing goes before you put it back on. Much easier than pumping it in thru the side fill hole.

*FWIW if the fluid looks red orange what color is your coolant? I've seen head gaskets weep as they begin to go south. Basically the fluid flows back along the edge of the gasket and head and then flows down the back of the block, across and back down the bellhousing eventually dripping down from the lowest center rib of the main transmission case. Toyota factory coolant looks orang-ish red or all red.

Not coolant. I have flushed the entire cooling system twice now and everything was replaced with green coolant. I said it doesnt look/smell like GEAR oil. Doesnt mean it isnt some other type of POL. I do have a leaking PS gear box but not real sure how it would get all the way back there without getting all over everything else first. Head gasket and head recently replaced.
