tranny shifting strange

I have a 15 trail. I have started noticing while driving on a local curvy paved 50 mile long hiway, where the speed limit is 55 or less, that my transmission, while in drive, seems to want to stay in 5th, or O, even while driving 30-40 around corners. It doesnt want to down shift every time? I have to really push down on the gas pedal to get it to shift down. It seems like the gas pedal loses sensitivity? Its really hard to describe. If i have it in manual mode the gas pedal is very quick and sensitive. Not sure if the two issues are related or not. Seems to happen after Ive been driving for a while and everything is warm. Make sense? Anyone ever seen what im talking about?

Absolutely normal. Mother Toyota has programmed our trans to upshift early and downshift late, all in the name of improved mpg. I drive in S4 below 45 mph.

Add a "Sprint Booster" to the gas pedal, that will do it,problem solved

This is one of many little characteristics that can be annoying about our 4WD A750F tranny (or A750E for 2WD). On the flip side it's incredibly reliable. So I for one have no big beef with having some "character" issues. I've learned to make good use of the S-mode. It largely negates most of the "strange" shifts the are so often brought up here on this forum. And as far as any extra fuel consumption, well if it's that important to you why do you drive a 4Runner in the first place:crybaby:

I would say its pretty normal behavior for the 5th gen. Yours could be doing something more extreme.. but many owners have felt the throttle and transmission have a mind of their own in these trucks. It behaves completely different from a dead stop compared to a throttle roll in. The engineers really screwed it up in my opinion.. The motor and transmission that are in these trucks could offer so much more in terms of driveability. It could all be fixed if there was an aftermarket way to tune the PCM.. but that will never happen with a Toyota.

The best solution I found was re-gearing. It completely changes the way the transmission shifts and feels. But it kills your MPG and really requires you to step up the tire size significantly to have decent hwy manners.

Antman: "WTF is going on here? I'll just turn this crap off."

CC: "Whew! Back to sleep."

Dang, I missed that. [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] Funny Jeff ...... and spot on. Always wakes my wife up when it roars down to 3rd gear. (She falls asleep about 50 yards out of the driveway).
